It is all family issues. He hasn’t seen his family over the years as often as they would have liked. They have been asking him to retire for awhile. He has even discussed it in articles in the past.

My guess is this is his last year coaching.

If this is it then they need to be pursuing future coaches pretty hard right now through the pipeline. Be in touch with agents. Vogel is interesting, still like Silas as an assistant as well.

He should, he earned it but for a franchise who wants to win not just 1 championship but a couple that is not good news.

    I believe this + Melo.

Because otherwise I think the normal person goes through the mental process of "how many more years, do I quit now" much earlier in the summer. I assume he went through that and told himself at least 1 more year. Then Melo came onboard and he was like "I stayed for this? No thanks".

But he probably felt bad about leaving on such short notice. But couldn't talk himself into coming back. But then the Melodrama started, and Jeff became willing to rejoin the team for the season, and will this time quit early next offseason.

The Rockets are always fairly active keeping tabs on coaches. I am sure the Rockets hope Jeff comes back but he was only willing to commit for this season and he has been preparing to retire for many years.

Getting a really good defensive coach is difficult for the Rockets because they switch so heavy. That rules out a lot of the older guys like Hollins.

I don’t think it had anything to do with Anthony.

There are other weaknesses that a coordinator cannot help him with.

7 man rotations, failure to call for immediate time outs, stubbornness, he is either soft with superstars or he has clashed with them before.

I am glad Bzdelik is back. And if it is only for the rest of this season then, ok. But I AM glad that the Rockets are ACTIVELY reviewing candidates to take over that role and NOT relying on Roy Rogers to become that person. So that is VERY encouraging.
