JAWS always scares the hell out of me, but I was almost eaten by a shark when I was 7, so I'm a little biased...

The Shining is the best made of all the horror movies ever, but there are other great ones; Alien (the 1st was more horror, the latter ones became more action), Rosemary's Baby, Dude, Where's my Car, and Sorry, Wrong Number.

I forgot about Alien. I just rewatched it a few weeks ago on DVD and I had forgotten how good it was. The special effects have really held up well when compaired to newer movies. I suggest anyone that hasnt seen it or is a fan of the movie, check out the Alien Quadriligy (sp?) disc. It has both a directors cut and origional version with a new DTS audio track and a great newly remastered picture.

    MacBeth,

Just wanted to thank you for your past Film Noir thread a few months ago. The Third Man is now one of my favorite movies.

Twilight Zone was the one that used to get me. The kid that could read your mind was creepy.

It's really hard to explain without giving away key moments, but essentially it's about a woman who is quite ill, and her husband's plans for her.

NP, and you have no idea hwo nice that is to hear. I love sharing great movies, watching them with people who havn't seen them before is like seeing them again for the 1st time, in a way. I assume that you;ve seen Maltese Falcon, the Big Sleep, etc., but you probably haven't seen A Touch of Evil yet...give it a look, you'll enjoy it.

I'd forgotten about those Top Ten By Genre lists...ought to start them up again, so many not covered...thanks for the reminder.

there's The Ring and then a large step down to all the rest starting with The Shining.

nothing has done to me what The Ring did to me. that's probably the only scary movie i've taken home with me. in the theater, when the girl came out of the tv, i've never heard a theater scream like that (were you there AB?). i wasn't one of them, but i've never heard that much before. i still won't look at that first girl she killed's face when she's in the closet whenever i watch the movie.

the shining is scary, but it's only scary in the moment for me. the ring, damn.

The problem with the Ring is that it's best if you don't know anything about it, and it's exponentially better if you don't know that it's scary at all before you see it.

I agree with most everyone else though. That movie is the scariest movie I've ever seen.

anyone heard that the Japanese version of the ring, Ringu, has a seen where they actually captured a ghost on camera. They filmed in an apartment where a girl actually hanged herself. u can see it in the movie.

by the way i have a question. if a person does not have a tv then can she come and kill u? and if u do not answer the phone than can she still kill u?

I am such a freaking wimp, I think Signs is probably the scariest movie I ever saw, the scene where the alien comes out of the bushes is only made creepy because that damn "home footage" looks real.
