http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=fanball-texansstaffshuffled&prov=fanball&type=lgns News The Texans hired former Carolina and Buffalo offensive coordinator Joe Pendry to be their offensive line coach, a move that triggered a chain-reaction shuffling of coaching duties for three other members of the Houston staff. Tony Marciano, who had been the Texans’ line coach the past two seasons, will now oversee the team’s tight ends. Former tight ends coach Greg Roman will shift into the newly created position of quarterbacks coach, a responsibility formerly handled by offensive coordinator Chris Palmer. “We just wanted to strengthen the staff as much as we could to move forward,” Texans head coach Dom Capers told the Houston Chronicle. “From the beginning, our plan was to have a quarterback coach. With a young quarterback, we felt that if we waited until we got through a couple of years, that would be the best way to do it so that Chris could be hands-on with David [Carr].” Pendry was the Panthers’ offensive coordinator under Capers and will work primarily with the Texans’ centers and guards, while assistant line coach Steve Marshall focuses on the tackles. Views The moves allow Palmer to be more involved of all aspects of Houston’s offense while still having someone responsible for Carr’s continued development. The Texans have some offensive talent in place, and continuity on the coaching staff should help them continue to develop in year three.
Texans have an excellent model and terrific management! They do not cease to amaze me, and though this is not HUGE news, if read properly (so says I) this move shows patience, vision, and a a desire to spend money to continue sending the very best football team that they can on the field every Sunday. The Texans are going places, and by no means is it an accident. I'm just starting to supplant my (deep) depression from the Oilers leaving with an excitement that the Texans deserve. It's almost time to buy some season tickets.
Very well said. I feel the same way. If I lived in Houston, I'd probably have season tickets right now. We had family barbecue's on Sundays when the Oilers were in town just to watch the game together. Especially in that late 80's/early 90's era when the team was really, really competative, it was so awesome to get together w/ friends, drink some beer, and watch the games. Thank god, I feel like that's coming back now with the Texans. It's just such a well run organization. Thank you, Bob McNair, (ducks for lightning bolt) MY SUNDAY'S HAVE PURPOSE AGAIN!
I'm not a big fan of Chris Palmer. Way too conservative, which ended up costing us several games in the 2nd half last year, including Indianapolis, NE, and Tennessee.
