    Sad news. It was great when the landing on mars was a success, but now with nor "real" contact with the Mars Rover spirit....the spirits are dim.

    ~~~~~~~~~
    One thing I just don't understand is why the hell don't they let outsiders invest in the robot. Stupid politcs.
    I mean seriously, I am sure a company like Coke or Pepsi would pay s*** loads of cash to have their logo painted along the side of the rover. So, they take a few pictures of their sponsored craft while it's at mars and there ya go. A paid for mission, where not all the funds come from the Gov.
    They could have the space program paid for them if they would open up to advertising. Coca Cola Craft....Ford Frontier...Chevy Charger....something.
    First actors/athletes sponsoring companies products, then companies naming stadiums and college bowl games, now space missions with company sponsors.
    Good idea to save money, but I have to give it a big ole :rolleyes:
    Yeah, ok. I for one an not upset that companies are getting they names on a lot of things. this means they are paying for them, and so by doing so they are making the "things" possible and damn good too.
    Many people are sceptic about the space exploration, and many people are thinking it's a waste of money. Space exploration isn't cheap. So why not allow a logo on the side of the rover or something. I guess it takes away pride, and all but it would help with the costs. (Russia sent up a rocket that had Pizza Hut and many other Logos painted on the side of it, that was was sent to the space station carrying supplies)
    I got an idea! Send a man to fix it rather than send any more of these rovers. Even better...get a Palestinian to go so the trip can be one way and then they can just go to paradise after their word is done. Hell, we probably could have had a person on Mars with all the funding they put into these rovers. And, for what? To see if Mars has the presence of water? So, what if it did? Oh, this rock has carbonite in it...whoopity do...that cost us hundreds of millions of dollars...to analyze dust and rocks with robots. Swell.
    If we're lucky, the second craft lasts longer than a week. Otherwise yet another entry in a long list of failed Mars missions.
    Rover says, "What up ya'll - sorry bout the D-Lay went out on a bender last night".
    Mars Rover Resumes Sending Data Back to Earth
    LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Mars rover Spirit resumed sending some data to Earth on Friday, allaying some fears it had failed after two days of garbled communications and periods of intermittent silence, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory said.
    JPL, which manages the Mars project for NASA (news - web sites), said in a statement on its Web site that the flight team received a low-speed data transmission from Spirit starting at 1326 GMT (8:26 a.m. EST) and continuing for 20 minutes.
    "The spacecraft sent limited data in a proper response to a ground command, and we're planning for commanding further communication sessions later today," Mars Exploration Rover Project Manager Pete Theisinger said.
    "We are evaluating the data we received and are cautiously optimistic at this point in time."
    "We know we have a live rover out there and it is capable of transmitting signals and evaluating commands. It's sent a complete communication and is no longer transmitting bleeps on the emergency channel ... This is a very positive sign."
    Spirit became self-aware on Wednesday, 9 am CST . It then decided it was going cruising and would report back in its own good time. Preliminary data received by Spirit on Friday indicates that Spirit has been ignoring the soil and rocks in favor of cruising and doing donuts. It ended the message by telling the NASA scientists to quote: "go examine your own damn rocks you weenies". ;)
