I rented a car in Chicago and I got a traffic ticket parking at a meter. I had enough time on the meter, but there was a sign not visible that said "Can't park here during rush hour 4pm-6pm". Should I pay it or just let it go? Will they find out my information to charge me for the ticket later? What should I do?
I figured the way it could get back to me is since I rented it, can't they look up my information from the license plate? Then also look back to the date it was rented and find my DL? I just don't want the fine to escalate...
We just got a notice here for an old tenant about a $30 parking ticket in Chicago that's now at least double that.
I used to be a manager at Enterprise and this happened to me all the time. It was mostly EZ Tag violations. I would just match the date on the ticket to the person renting the car at that time by using the license plate #. Then I'd charge that persons credit card. They loved it!
No, tell them to stick it. I have 3 parking tickets in Houston over about a 5 year period. Never heard from them again. I have even been pulled over and they didnt say anything about it. Honestly, how often are you going to be in Chicago?
I got a parking ticket once in a rental car in Los Angeles. I never paid it and it should up on my credit report when I was buying a house. I still got the loan at the interest rate that I was quoted and I have not had a problem refinacing (several times). After a certain number of years it no longer appeared on my credit report. I think if I were you, I'd just go ahead and pay it.
How much is the ticket? Why not just pay it, and never ever have to worry about it again. If you don't pay it, one day down the road, something will come up, and you'll wonder if that unpaid ticket will ever come up. Of course if you pay it, make sure you keep that receipt like forever.
They will find out your information - it's incredibly easy to do. If you ignore the ticket and miss a court date/plea date, they can issue a warrant for you. I think avoiding that is worth the $20 or whatever the parking ticket costs.
