Man, have you ever lived or worked in that whole upper Plains region just west of the Midwest? Really sparsely populated and very isolated; the kind of people who's only exposure to other groups is through media and pop culture and where it's easy to assume you won't be caught doing or saying something offensive. Also if you're a member of the offended group, you kind of let it slide because you're completely outnumbered and knew what you were getting into when you moved there.
This is near me. The crazy thing is that 10 percent of their students are Latino. I think this is a representation of the problems that arise from living in a vacuum. Idaho is way too red for its own good. You rarely hear dissenting ideas because of the limited pushback to conservative ideas and thought processes. If anything everyone is trying to out conservative each other. When you are around that all the time this probably seems like a good/funny idea. Then this gets picked up and it makes the state look bad as a whole.
So, it’s normal to not keep politic out of school or is this a new thing happening? Been out of public school for decades so wondering...
