Was playing football afterschool today, and I closed my hands a bit early when making a catch. The ball hit the semi-closed fist, mainly the middle finger. Now, when I hold my hand open (palm to ground), the finger is straight except for the part after the first joint (right before the fingernails) -- it's bent at a.. I don't know, 10 to 20 degree angle downward. When holding my hand limp, it doesn't really hurt, just sort of numb but when I try to straigthen it out or grip anything tightly, it hurts. Dislocation? Should I get it checked out?
Sounds like a break or fracture if it's numb and bent downward...but I'm not a doctor....I'd see one.
Well, it's not completely numb, just sort of a buzzing, slight numbness. Doesn't feel that much like this when I raise my arm, dunno if it has anything to do with this or not.
Even if it's only slightly numb it could still be a break or fracture. My arm was only slightly numb when I broke my wrist, and I almost decided not to go to the doctor for it even though I was only like 9.
Going to the hospital to check it out as soon as mi madre gets off work. When you say bend it, do you mean the finger or joint? The finger I can bend a bit, but it hurts like hell to raise it as if to point. I can lightly grip things as well. The joint, well, I can push it back and forth a tiny bit, but not on its own.
So it hit around your fingernail; I assume on the joint right under the nail: I've slammed my finger in a door (twice) and these unusual red dots appear on the tip. I've jammed EVERY one of my fingers at least 3 times playing basketball. I usually can't move it much as it hurts quite a bit and gets swollen quickly. It's stiff for a few days and the bruising subsides soon after. I do get these marks that look like stars on the skin over the joints for some reason. Every time it happens I think it's broken but it neverhas been. If you think the bone is actually fractured, are you able to try and feel and put pressure on the bone? I don't know about numbness, but if it was broken, I'm pretty sure you would know it. I assume you got ice and such. If you don't want to go to a doctor and want to play it safe, you might want to tape two fingers together with medical tape or something similar.
I've had this happen to me at least three times. (All three playing football, no less.) Only one time was really bad, and that lasted for about a month. It was black and blue and it hurt really bad to bend it. I never went to the doctor, and eventually it returned to normal. I suppose it could've been worse than it was, but I figured if it could bend at all, then it'd be okay eventually. It just sounds like a jammed finger to me, but then again, I'm sure as hell no doctor.
