You took the bait. Would have been better to let this drop down.

It's intended to crowd out references to the MAGA Bombings and massacres.

    Hahaha!

Seriously though, I can get behind this column, and I liked the Federalist gift shop thread. That was a hoot.

It's funny I've never really been in this position. When I was a kid, I was out trick-or-treating and my parents handled distribution. Then I was living in apartments in my young adulthood and had no trick-or-treaters. Then I had a proper house and was excited about trick-or-treaters, but it was in Third Ward and apparently people don't trick-or-treat there (I did when I had kids, but not many people were ready for us then). Now I'm in Westbury and most locals are drawn to the trick-or-treating mecca in Bellaire. There are some in my subdivision but I have trick-or-treating duties now (in Bellaire), so we just set a cauldron of candy out. So I've never handed out candy.

I have only been a homeowner for like 6-7 years, but I've never really had this problem. Yes, I've had some high schoolers, but... who cares? I'd rather give them the candy then have it left over and eat it myself. I don't think I've ever had any adults come without kids. That said, if this is a problem for you, then the tiered treat idea is a decent one.

Last year it rained all evening so we just set out a bucket. This year it's supposed to rain again, and we'll have a 2 week old baby that my wife will be caring for. So we'll be turning off the lights early on even if conditions are good. I'll take the toddler out to the expensive houses on the other side of the neighborhood.

Also, please pick up some non-food treats for the kids with food allergies in your neighborhood.

Collecting rainwater is a Halloween tradition for you? Or do you mean you cruelly set the kids' sugary entitlements out in the rain to make it soggy?

Be glad to see the older kids trick-or-treating and let them know it and reward them. It seems they grow up much faster in these social media driven days.

Would you rather them be out drinking and egging your house?

    Edit: sorry sam...can't resist

Egg my house. Just keep them off the Federalist website. Or, God forbid, Stormfront.

The bucket collected rainwater, which I then threw on the kids who came on the front porch.

Never had a single trick-or-treater in like 15 years ownibg a house in Montrose. I bought candy excitedly the first few years, it went unused. :(

Sam is correct about why The Federalist run this fluff, though I doubt that's why the OP posted it -- he just has a sense of humor.

But you know, we are nahht going to fix anti-Semitism and domestic terrorism by having an unusually pure front page in the D&D forum of our favorite basketball BBS. As long as we aren't ignoring the bad stuff, we can have the occasional piece of candy, I think.

Ha Ha, that is funny satire right there.

I don't care about the age or quality of the costume. If you come to my house and are at least saying trick or treat you get candy. Who cares about age, if they are older at least they are not getting into trouble and extending a fun tradition. I still help my kids plot the best route for the most loot. :)

I bet that lady would give out full sized candy bars to the neighborhood MAGA Bombers.

    I don't see kids.

I treat people all the same.
