switching is not the problem, it's the players. we don't have good defensive wings like we had last season..

Man, yall really need to check Dantoni's resume. He's not some mediocre hack.

 

You have to commit on defense. Harden and Melo can't do that. They get switched on and they look completely lost

 

Seems like who switches with who is something you hammer out in preseason. Maybe counting on nene and not really showing Hartenstein the ropes is biting the ass now. He ended up iso against guards too much, they have to know not to switch that. I think they have to keep getting Hartenstein and Clark minutes though, some youth certainly wouldn’t hurt this old team.

 

The real problem is not the scheme its the players ,try putting putting a square block through a round hole,not possible ,wat im trying to say is that putting or adding players who are not historically good at defence, then expecting them to be productive defensivly is absurd.Yes the communication and chemistry is off but it really starts with how capable / good a player is then expecting a realistic outcome. You add melo and mcw and somehow u expect to be good defensively? Blows my mind bruh.

 

He was "slipping the screens" and shooting mid range buckets? There wasn't help at the rim.

 

Setting aside all the histrionics and hand-wringing and gnashing of teeth for a minute, realize that Rogers didn't have a lot of time to prepare for changing from "Big Man Coach" to calling the shots on defense. I'm wondering how much of what they're doing is based on the system that Biglydick had installed versus how much (if any) has been altered. Add the fact that Rogers has many players who are new to him, new to the team, new to the other players, AND new to the system, and it's not a big shock that the start has been rough. Disappointing, for sure, but not wholly unreasonable.

This is the same guy when asked defensive questions last said "you have to ask Jeff about that..."

Let's be honest... MDA's wheel house is on one end of the court - not the other...

no disrespect, but if we're just gonna bury our heads in the sand and wait for MDA to fix the defense - its gonna be a loooooong year...

 

Here is the thing...if the switching defense is too complicated for the personnel then that means you need to simplify it.

 

See that’s the thing. You don’t have to make decisions. You just switch. That’s the whole point. Non switching requires more decisions because sometimes you have to switch in those scenarios anyway so it requires more b-ball iq and communication.

Switch everything is a means of dumbing it down.

 

All of those players contribute to the Rockets current issues and don't solve them.
