I want to believe - but I held the faith in 2015-2016 and got burned. And everything I've seen thus far indicates that we'll be in the lottery. Remember, last season there was a 3 game difference between the 3rd seed and the 8th seed and we've already racked up 4 losses. The Nuggets won 46 games last year and didn't make the playoffs. I could easily see the Rockets being in that type of situation if they don't right the ship IMMEDIATELY!
I totally agree with that. Assuming we are a threat to the Warriors we should be a threat to any team. Underrated by a lot of the people who mocked the coverage of losing Ariza and Mbah a Moute as well as those who praised dumping Ryan Anderson was how important all three were to our offense. Everyone of those guys had a better ORTG than Melo last season. Is Melo more skilled than all three? Of course. But all three of those guys fit the role required and shot above 36% from 3 on decent volume. People severely underrate how much that helped our offense. You've replaced 15 three point attempts per game at high percentage with junk. The whole offense suffers because of that which also hurts the defense. Part of what made them efficient was also passing up shots they shouldn't take. Yes, Ryno passed up some shots he SHOULD have taken, but ultimately that was better than having guys take shots they SHOULDN'T take. The entire offense is wrecked right now. Melo taking jab step jump shots, MCW taking floating mid range shots (hell any shot for him), etc. You've replaced 3 very efficient players with inefficient players who ALSO play worse defense.
The big difference in terms of Offense is that last year the Rocket team averaged an Offense Output of 112.4 in the Regular Season. (average 106.5) I think we were a Top 2 Offense. This year teams caught up. The average team is averaging 113 ppg (small sample size though). You see where the trend is going. Just saying.
Even the warriors didn't win 60 last year. Winning 60 games is hard even good teams don't always win 60.
I'm pretty disappointed about the start of this season as well, but it seems like there are people here who think the Rockets will miss the playoffs altogether! That's too much of a stretch for me, I get the pessimism but some people here are waaaay too cynical Cheer up, chaps tally ho, and whatnot
