OK...I know it's a huge load of self-promotion by ESPN...but I thought this was pretty interesting poll they were conducting. http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/listranker?id=18&partnersite=espn Here's my top 10...(please don't ask me to explain)... 1. Michael Jordan 2. Carl Lewis 3. Magic Johnson 4. Jerry Rice 5. Lance Armstrong 6. Tiger Woods 7. Barry Sanders 8. Joe Montana 9. John McEnroe 10. Mike Tyson
your list is totally invalid since The Great One is no where to be found but you have John McEnroe and Mike Tyson ? 1. Jordan 2. Gretzky 3. Woods 4. Bonds 5. Armstrong 6. Montana 7. Sampras 8. Navratilova 9. Roy 10. Bird
Good call...my fault. It was a bit confusing trying to figure out who was left out of the list. In retrospect, I would bump Iron Mike and move Barry Sanders down and move Wayne up. It'll be pretty interesting to see how the overall makeup of the list is determined. Everyone has their own specific grading criteria. I based mine on athleticism, leadership and championships (which makes me look like a fool for leaving Gretzky out of the list )
Mike Tyson? He folded in almost every big fight he's ever been in. Didn't he beat a 50 year old Michael Spinks to win his first title?
drapg's top 25 1. Jordan 2. Gretzky (decision b/t #1 and #2 was the TOUGHEST) 3. Carl Lewis 4. Navritolova 5. Lance Armstrong 6. Pete Sampras 7. Barry Bonds 8. Jerry Rice 9. Ricky Henderson 10. Barry Sanders 11. Tiger Woods 12. Magic Johnson 13. Lawrence Taylor 14. Larry Bird 15. Joe Montana 16. Mario Lemieux 17. John Elway 18. Sugar Ray Leonard 19. John McEnroe
1. Jordan 2. Bonds 3. Rice 4. Gretsky 5. Woods 6. Armstrong 7. Montana 8. Lewis 9. Johnson 10. Roy Can someone please explain to me how Duncan is on there, but not Olajuwon? What about freaking A-Rod. ESPN is a joke.
oops 20. Mike Tyson 21. Roger Clemens 22. Patrick Roy 23. Jackie Joyner-Kersee 24. Serena Williams 25. Flo Jo (no one stood out at the end)
even though it's been in the GARM before, you still gotta love duncan over hakeem. in the nba over the last 25 years i'd rank 'em 1. jordan 2t. hakeem 2t. magic 4. bird (hakeem's unbelievable defense really makes we wanna break that tie, but then i'd feel like i was just being a homer) if i have to use the people espn chose then i'd go 1. jordan 2. gretzky (he was more dominant than jordan, but come on, it's hockey) 3. bonds (the last 3 years have been surreal) 4t. rice/montana (i refuse to separate them) 6. carl lewis (a gold medal in 4 different olympics??!!) 7. woods (while his complete dominance spans only a relatively short time so far, his effect on the game has been staggering) 8. sampras 9. armstrong 10. rickey or magic
well, because dream wasn't very marketable, but TD is the height of personality. oh wait, no he isn't. well probably because houston never gets much national attention. oh wait, neither does san antonio. well maybe it's because duncan's better than dream. oh wait, that's not true either. it must be steve francis' fault.
Seriously, what the hell are Arod and TD doing on that list? 1- Jordan 2 - Gretsky 3 - Lewis 4 - Rice 5 - Armstrong 6 - Bonds 7 - Woods 8 - Montana 9 - Johnson 10 - Navritolova
That list is ridiculous. Olajuwon belongs on the list of the best basketball players right after Jordan, Magic, and Bird. How can Hakeem's 20 years of greatness (counting his very successful college career) not surpass TD's eight years in the spotlight? Ken Griffey Jr. should be on that list over A-Rod even though he hasn't been able to do anything in the past three or four seasons. I'm also surprised that Deion Sanders didn't make the list. He was a GREAT defensive back and a decent pro baseball player for a few years.
What, no Tony Hawk? I guess skateboarding is not a "real" sport. I would have to pick Armstrong for no. 1. lets see, 5 consecutive Tour de France titles is insane. To do it after overcoming cancer is unbeliveable. And he is going to try a six-peat. Amazing!
