I am ignorant. Enlighten me. Why was Stevie picked as high as 2nd in the draft? What did he do in Maryland and high school?

I think he is on the cover of this issue's Hoop. See NBA.com

Mad hops, mad athleticism, mad enthusiasm for the game. When I told my brother (Lakers fan; ugh!) the Rockets were gonna trade for Steve, he said, "No ****? That guy's f***ing awesome, have you ever seen him play?"

I never saw Stevie play before he came to Rockets. So he was really HUGE in high school and Maryland?

Many players looked like the next MJ in those NCAA and high school games. They ended up bench warmers in NBA. How was Stevie different?

he made a name for himself at maryland. he never really settled at any high school due to the fact of his mothers' death. he went to several jucos including san jac here in houston before he went to marlyand. maryland being in the acc let him get publicity on espn and of course dick vitale labled him a diaper dandy. he wore number 23 and broke ankles against duke and north carolina on national televised games. not to mention his high-flying dunks. he was playing shooting guard also because juan dixon was playing the point and that allowed him to roam baselines for alley-oops and acrobatic dunks. the only reason that brand went #1 in the draft that year was because of them winning the championship that year.

He attended one junior college (San Jac) in his Freshman season and one community college (Alleghany) in his Sophomore season and then Maryland in his Junior season.

If you guys recall he was also pretty upset that he didn't get to go to Chi-Town. Also If I remember correctly he was being billed as the second comming of Iverson. Mostly because of his hight, handles, and quickness.
