You are misunderstanding. If the Rockets trade for him we have his Bird rights, which means;

a) we can go over the cap and offer him whatever we want to retain him

b) we can offer an extra year on the contract that no one else can.

Also...he's from just outside of Houston, and he's friends with players on the team.

 

Assuming this is real, if Taylor doesn't push to get this done with four 1st rounders on the table and considering the situation well, he can suck it and let Thibs/Layden destroy his franchise, can't wait to see Towns asking for a trade and Butler leave for nothing...if i have to trade four 1st rounders and also good players, i just do that for Anthony Davis.

 

I honestly have no idea how people could actually think that Morey would spend all this time and energy going after Butler if we couldn’t or wouldn’t give him a max deal...it makes no sense to me

 

Because the best offer Wolves have gotten is not even worth half of Gordon and 4 late first rounders. Doesn't make sense we would offer a package several levels above what Miami has offered.

Don't forget that Butler is a disgruntled player who has asked out. Gordon and 4 picks (even one of them being decent) would be worth a happy, appropriately-paid Butler. Gordon on his own could net an expiring and a late first. So it would be more like dealing an expiring and 5 late first rounders for Butler, which is not even debatably realistic.

why is this even a debate? the future is now. win the ring and see if butler wants to walk away from that. win-win. morey prefers 2nd rounders anyway it actually challenges him.
