Rockets Renew Bid for Butler, offering FOUR first-round picks

So if we aren't winning either way then this trade means nothing whether we do it or not. So lock the thread up.

 

GM never admit the void created by losing Ariza/LUC until this trade. Jimmy will fill the wing position and put us right back to compete with Warrior. Whether this will be enough to put us on top, it is hard to say. But without trade, we aren't beating nobody and let alone warriors. In the meantime, we can't lose EG and Tucker. Otherwise, it is not good trade with losing 4 1st rounder.

 

Change Melo for tuck .

 

Our GM and Owner thought we were fine as constructed currently. Clearly they were wrong and undeserving of your trust. Butler is not enough vs. Warriors + Boogie. So..... I agree with you. If all that matters is winning, we can unload our best players now because...

Butler + current Rockets < Warriors + Boogie.

Here's my bottom line: It's not enough to think Butler could help us compete. A lesser talent, i.e., Ariza or Luc, (and less expensive) could help us compete. Unless you think the Butler addition clearly makes us better than GS, don't do it!

 

And neither will MN care that much about the picks.

 

Are you asking if you can reach a verbal agreement and then wait until the 31st to execute the trade? If so, the answer is 'yes'.

 

Do you disagree? You feel certain Butler, no defense, and a bad bench puts us over the top? I think we should seek less expensive ways to improve the team. We won 65 games last year with no Butler or Melo but WITH an aging Ariza and Luc.

The thinking that we must do this deal is ridiculous

 

I would have to assume this would only be on the table in the scenario where Butler signs a multi-year extension and is then traded, without giving up Gordon or Tucker. With a starting 5 of Harden/Paul/Butler/Tucker/Capela locked up for several years, we have a decent shot at the title and its worth the risk imo. Once this window passes, it might be many years before the Rockets are in contention again, so it would make sense that our front office is all in right now.

 

I am not liking all these trade proposals being reported to public as soon as they are tabled, partly because I just want to know when it is a done deal and we can start creating "welcome BACK to houston, jimmy" threads and partly because I think this threatens the closure of the actual deal.

 

But think about it... How is that type of trade even remotely attractive to Minny? What do they get? Some scrubs and 4 picks--three of which will probably be awful.

I am thinking this deal only works w/ the picks AND at least Gordon.

How do you feel then about our chances then?

 

Is Tilman a true no-tanker or just a show no-tanker? Officially, no team is supposed to tank. But as Morey has noted, it's easy to tank without admitting it, if your owner is willing.

If we have to give up on Gordon and the picks then it's obviously no deal .

4 picks is a lot . Even if YOU think they aren't going to be good picks , they still have a lot of value due to the fact that they could .

They allow MIN to have a lot of flexibility and way more assets . If min wants to trade its own picks two years in a row they can do this now .

4 first rounds picks is an exceptionally fair offer for a guy who is gonna leave at the end of the the year . I doubt MIN can do better .

Just asked the Dunc'd On guys about the picks having to convey because of Stepian/7 year limit rule and they said that any of the picks can be protected to immediately convert to 2 seconds or mechanizations like that so there certainly can be ways to contingently avoid giving up 4 straight firsts. Just can't have the pick protection to slide it back a year for another first.


This is almost certainly how Morey will go about it.

The fact that this went public makes me feel like the Butler trade isn’t happening or highly unlikely at this point.

Either Minn is using Houston’s offer to try and drive up some else’s bid that they are trying to get done, or it’s Houston leaking this so they have the ability to show the league and their fans that they tried and Tillman is seriously about winning a title.
