Awesome! This team has heart. Ivey is getting really good. I love watching them play; brings back memories of 94, 95. They may not win it all but it's fun.
Unbelievable game. Not the most talented team, but they obviously have alot of heart. I wonder if Barnes can coach football?
maybe not much longer. i think UT had the #1 recruiting class last year. although maybe thats not what you want in austin.
Yup...it kinda pisses me off when people here know every player on the football team but don't even know Rick Barnes. He's doing a terrific job building a perennial powerhouse. PJ Tucker was a marvelous recruit. Maybe there aren't many absolutely great players on the team, but it's top-to-bottom quality talent. Klotz, Mouton, Tucker, Ivey, Thomas, Moreno, Paulino, Buckman, Boddicker...the whole team is talented in their own cohesive ways. Not to mention half of their roster is from Texas; and harvesting the bountiful local talent was a commitment that Barnes made. If UT students and fans weren't so busy trashing Mack Brown, they might realize they have a really classy guy coaching the "other" team.
DT - love the UT basketball team quick question... if there much coming up thru besides Tucker, most the team this are seniors right... what will they be like next year....
I went to Wake Forest game and it was much more entertaining than any rockets games I've seen this year.
There is MUCH more coming up. Daniel Gibson is one of the top guards and players in the nation. Almost definite All-American. Coming next year... Mike Williams (Forward) is a top 25 player as well. Dion Dowell is a SF in the top 75 and Connor Atchley is a top 100 center. Then there is Abrams, a top prospect at guard who's two years away. We're also in on Monta Ellis who is a top 10 national player as a shooting guard. So in a few years we could have possibly Aldridge, Buckman, Tucker, Gibson, Abrams running UT.
I'm not one of those fans. I know how special a coach Barnes is and I support/watch the team as often as I can. This texas team can still make major noise in the NCAA's and I think you can't rule out another long tourney run with the current state of college basketball. And Texas fans are taking notice. I took my family to the Baylor game over winter break, and the whole lower bowl at the FEC was full. Last year it wasn't even half full, during the spring for the same opponent. And the nebraska crowd was even bigger as there was a good number in the upper section. The cheering could still be better and all, but when a really good team(Wake) came to Austin, the crowd turned up the heat. It is hard to be motivated for Baylor and Nebraska for many fans, but it definitely can improve. On tonight's game, Texas got screwed a lot by the refs(22 free throw disparity), but instead of whining, they shut Mizzou up with their play. And I have figured out the two players UT can't afford to lose for extended time are Ivey and Boddicker, they are the guys who come through in the clutch and are the unquestioned leaders on the team. Tucker and Taylor were my honorable mention choices. Finally, Mizzou is in trouble, they might squeak out an at large NCAA bid with a good big 12 run, but they could easily miss the tournament all together.
Texas is actually getting more talented over the offseason, as daniel gibson, mike williams, lamarcus aldridge(who from all reports will likely come to school for at least a year) dion dowell and connor atchley join the team. Gibson and Aldridge and Williams are amazing talents, dowell is rock solid and atchley is an underrated prospect. They'll still have tucker, klotz, buckman, taylor, moreno, harris(if he can find his game again) and paulino back. Texas is in great shape for a long time under barnes.
Second time this season where they've tied the game on a three-pointer when the shooter's caught the ball off a block. Wow.
Last night's game was absolutely amazing. Although it's tempting, I'm going to keep this post strictly about basketball, without taking any shots at Clapper Mack. What's amazing is that if Arthur Johnson doesn't stuff Ivey's shot, Boddicker never has a chance to tie it up with his 3 pointer. Royal and Boddicker have been money in the last two games. And that off balance fadeaway in OT was unbelievable. Conference play is helluva lot of fun. Any Texas Exes or current students need to get the f*ck out and go to this Saturday's game vs. OSU.
thanks guys for the update things sound good anyone else catch the Pitt @ UConn game, it was a great stuff, really love the way Pitt play especially there 2 strong senior guards Brown and Page, damn Brown is so damn strong... was a great game with Pitt going down by 3 after the game tying 3 rimmed out.. not sure about UConn...... there press is nice and helps them set there fast tempo, but when Pitt slowed them down they didn't look anywhere as good....Okafur had his moment and T Brown shot some clutch baskets...but not sure about the half court offense
What has happened to James Thomas? He hasn't started the last 6 games. Last year he was tremendous around the basket with rebounding and great hustle.
He still has great hustle, but he doesn't seem to have improved at all. He might have had some injuries too. He just can't finish around the basket...STILL.
i saw on nbadraft website that james thomas was projected to go as a late first rounder now he isnt even starting on his college team. poor guy.
I meant compared to the football team. They're talented college kids, but I don't see anyone on the current roster making it in the nba, though I hope I'm wrong. I think Pender's BMW team was "more talented" than this team, but I think this team would beat that bmw team. Also, Aldrige, Williams, Gibson and the rest of the freshman 5 beat Boddicker's class in a pickup game last year. Meaningless, yet still eye opening.
