While I get that Peterson is better, the Cardinals asking price will be much higher. The Texans need to keep as many of their top picks as possible in future drafts. If you aren't offering at least a 1st and probably a 2 or 3 for Peterson, that trade isn't getting done. Hell, Cardinals keep saying they aren't trading him. Maybe they don't. You can probably get Janoris for a lesser price and still upgrade you DB group significantly. You still have him for 2 additional seasons for slightly less money than Peterson. At no point do I feel the Texans should trade any of their future 1st rd picks. They have so many damn holes. Giants would probably take one of our extra 2nds and a late mid round pick to ship off the 29yr old CB. Hell, it could take less seeing how dumb that FO seems to be over their.

They have one "good/ish" corner on this team right now, and a plethora of safeties. Need someone better than the turn table opposite of Jjo without depleting future drafts.

It's the difference in having a chance at drafting guys like; Derek Rivers of the Pats, Chris Godwin of the Bucs, Antonio Garcia of the Pats, and Kareem Hunt for the Chiefs... over guys like; Samaje Perine of the Skins, Dorian Johnson of the Cards, Carl Lawson of the Bengals, and Josh Reynolds of the Rams. There is a significant drop off in talent there.

Plus you can always use those highers picks to package into trading back into the first round or higher into the second round, while keeping those fourth rounders, since in your mind they're just as equal in value.

The whole point in trading for these types of players is that the teams believe they're one player away. Even though we are FAR from that, if we make a deal for one guy it may as well be the guy that can come in and make a significant impact on the entire team. If we keep him after this season that's on the FO to worry about. As long as the homerun that was aimed at being hit gets out of the park, you got what you paid for.

In other words P2 would be nice, but he's not as significant of a game changing player for our team as a premier RB or even OT would be. Although, I don't see very many elite OT being shopped around... ever.

Didn't Janoris's brother kill his friend in Janoris's basement?

    These aren't texans-like qualities.

Well, of course there is - when you conveniently cherry-pick the best/worst examples.

    Patrick Peterson + 4th round pick > 1st and 3rd round picks.

Peterson makes the team better and his salary doesn't preclude a team flush with cap space from making additional moves. And that salary is good for two more years. Getting an elite CB, in his prime, for 39 games at a cost of roughly $28MM is a no-brainer.

I, generally, understand hoarding picks. But value is value and trading that pick for an elite CB is a tremendous ROI. You are not going to draft a player better than Patrick Peterson.

That wasn't cherry picking. It was literally those exact slots 83 and forward to 114 and forward from the 2017 draft, you should look them up yourself if you don't believe me... I didn't choose the 2018 draft because a lot of those players have yet to even see the field.

I'd spend the same for a guy that will immediately improve our worst position(s). I love P2 but he is not going to do much for improving our terrible offensive line. He's more of a luxury player than a need, IF we're considering ourselves "contenders" or potential contenders, at that.

Patpete is also the type of player that will be on top of his game at age 31 and 32. he doesn't rely only on his speed, studious to the game cause he came up n' the game.

Wasn't Janoris tho. Other than his college issues and him getting suspended by the Giants last season for not coming back after the bye, he's pretty much been fine since entering the league. That Giants suspension happened because of McAdoo losing the entire locker room last season and not a single player wanted to play for him anymore.

Other than that, He's been a stand up dude. Shouldn't be an issue.

I get that, but by no means am I about "hoarding" picks. All I'm saying is the asking price for Peterson is going to be too high for the Texans to even remotely believe they can help the o-line in the draft. They can't keep drafting guys in the later rounds and expect them to help protect Watson now or even down the road. They simply aren't that great at evaluating guard/tackle talent, let alone successfully develop them. They could go the free agency route, but they will have to overpay on a scale that would hurt the team else where. Probably at multiple positions.

The whole thing with Peterson demanding to be traded and then saying he's there long term is simply a ploy to drive up the asking price even further. They probably weren't happy with the offers they had received and wanted to put pressure on other GMs with this change of heart by Peterson. It's all a charade. Anyone can look at the teams roster and know that by the time they "could" be good, Peterson probably won't be.
