Today after my last class, as I was walking to my truck all of a sudden I got this sharp pain in the upper right side of my back. It feels like I have a 4 inch nail in my back.

I could barely crawl into my truck and just about couldn't turn to see where I was backing out into.

What I want to know is what do you guys do to relieve the pain? It is so horrible. Hurts so damn bad, almost as much as a mussle I partially tore in my chest a month ago.

I haven't worked out in a while, and haven't had to lift anything heavy like suitcases (or weights) in over a week. I have no idea why this pain suddenly appeared.

SO any advice as to how to ease the pain?

I feel your pain, I never had that and woke up today and had it. Thought going to the fitness studio might help, but it seems like that was a bad idea! Anyway, I'll just pretend it is not there, and it will go away!

Really? Is it an oriental spa? Is that why you don't have back pain because you don't have to masturbate? ( I think A-Train may finally be onto something )

Is it on Hilcroft or 59-South? Or on a side street of Richmond?

    :D

Is it just pain and no other symptoms?

Description is somewhat vague, but I think I've had exactly the same problem. :)

I am not sure if I tore a muscle or if I tore some part of my shoulder ligaments, but it happens to me periodically, every so often. It used to only happen on one side but then it happened on both sides, but not at the same time. Of course only after I turned 35...

Seems like several people around here have developed some back pain.

    Uprising,

Man I feel for you because I am going through the same thing. I must have injured my upper right back a week ago when I was doing my back and shoulders workout, but of course, it wasn't until Saturday morning that I felt any pain. Since then, I have spent, it seems, every second of my life in trying to get rid of the pain. I took off from work today to rest it because yesterday sitting in a chair (like I normally do) for 8 hours a day wasn't helping things (not to mention that having a sore throat on top of this is helping any).

It hasn't gotten to 100% yet but I think it is 85%. I would get a heating pad and use that at 20 minutes a time several times a day. Also, do some stretching exercises like stretching your arms straight over your head. My area is close enough that I can massage it with my hand and that helps give some relief. You may have to take a day off like I did and just rest. Also, take some ibuprofen as well.

Good luck because I know how much this sucks.

    Best answer yet.

Nobody here knows what the problem is, so nobody can reliably give you a cure.

    See a doctor.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Aleive. Great stuff for when your back is being a dumb hoe. It happens. Drink lots of water and definitely Icy Hot.

LOL. Some of these posts are great.

I tried to sleep it off. Just woke up a few minutes ago after sleeping on the couch for a while.

I took some advils and had a massage. It wasn't a professional massage but damn it felt good and I felt great afterwards...for a few minutes.

The pain isn't as bad anymore but it is still there. I think the advils are working, and I haven't paid much attention to it since I was sleeping. (always good when you don't think about the pain)

As for being more descriptive of the pain, I don't know what else I can say about it. The pain came all of a sudden with out warning. I haven't done too much lately in regards of hard physical work. It was pain in the upper right side of my back, on the inner part of my shoulder blade.

LOL! A-Train always makes me think twice before I post. :p

I am doing all those stretches etc. It was aweful earlier today. I had to lie down on the floor as soon as I got back from class. It hurt too much at the time. Hope your back feels better soon. It certainly sucks.

My parents have had back problems. I hope I don't carry it on and have it like that. My dad's back problems were kind of like migranes, they come and go but are really harsh. :(

Sorry to hear so many of us are suffering back pains right now. Damn it sucks.

Icy Hot or Bengay on your balls. It'll make you forget that pain on your back and bring a whole new world of it elsewhere.
