I don't know why he has a reputation as a good defender... he gets beat off the dribble every single time he's guarding someone. He's slow laterally and has poor reflexes and intuition on defense. Which leads to him committing a bunch of fouls because he's always getting beat and in bad defensive position.

Not only is he not good on defense... I think he actually sucks on defense.

All the offseason pick ups suck, including Carmelo to a lesser degree. Baffling moves for Morey. Maybe Fertitta's getting in his business.

Why did we not resign Luc again? I can't blame the team for not wanting to pay Ariza $15M but what about Luc

Luc looked shellshocked in the playoffs . He was coming off his second shoulder injury and the rockets had good reason to believe he might not come back the same player next year .

He has a good reputation of a good defender because his stats last year showed it.I still waiting to see if he can mold in with the guys.Lets give it 20 games then we can see if he really sucks or not.

Ennis looks good to me. He appears to be the best off season pickup so far. I don't think he's a big downgrade from healthy Luc. He is a definite upgrade over busted shoulders Luc.

He sucked harder. He just can't average more than 10 ppg on a Top 5 scoring team.

He belonged on the old Memphis 'cannot score over 110 points team'. I guess he has been there.

Ariza at least had some shooting potential.

    Boobs...are...bad? Nips are worse?
Ariza has prettier boobs than Ennis? And that is a bad thing? Or good?
I don’t think this makes sense.

He's a smaller, not as good, Corey Brewer. Literally the only thing he's good at is hustle. He should be a 15 min energy guy off the bench, not a starter on a championship contender.

Defensively, Luc with no shoulder is still better than him. Length is so so important in the NBA. Only so much you can do with a lanky 6'5 frame. That's why he fouls so often, overcompensating. He looks like a kid next to 6'10 Gallo.

We lost so much length on defense with the departure of Ariza and Luc. No surprise, we suck on D now.

I don't know what Luc is capable of anymore. He didn't fix the shoulder. It will dislocate again. I don't care enough to look up stats on him but he didn't look all that great last night.

I definitely agree with you about length and our Defense. It's only 3 games in but there is a huge step backwards in terms of athletic ability, focus, and determination. The mindset for defense is not there anymore.

I've been surprised at how bad his defense has been. I definitely did not expect that given the buzz around him when we signed him.

I did expect his offense to fall off a cliff after his 56% 3 point shooting in the preseason, but I thought that he would at least play well on defense.

Much like Beverley, he will learn to achieve a better balance between being frantic and choosing position. Not worried about him, he's going to be a very good rotation player very soon. His defense will never eclipse what Ariza gave us, but the whole argument is that he is more effective on slashes, drives and transition.

Ariza is a 6'9, 210lbs (with a 7'2 wingspan) octopus who gives you laser sharp defensive focus and effort for 35+ minutes a game and 80+ games a season. A lot of people thought his defense would be easy to replace with offense or an inexperienced replacement, and it was a stupid thought. Don't blame Ennis for it. He's the only offseason gamble who looks like he will be rotation-worthy soon.
