Harden's bad defense short clip gets upvoted on reddit /NBA again

Well if he stops ball watching they won't have clips tomorrow.

 

Unfortunately narrative matters for MVP .

Literally everything had to go right for Harden to win it last year .

14-15 .., he drags a team where the best player besides him was either Ariza or DMO to 56 wins and the 2 seed . Dwight only played 41 games and of those 41 was fully healthy for maybe 25. He looses to curry who has inferior stats but a better team and a better record .

16-17 ... he has a much better record than WB . Wb's team is about the same caliber . Our second best player by win shares that year....Trevor Ariza . He loses to WB because WB averages a triple double .

Last year .... best record in the league , 30+ ppg , high assists , improved team defense ..... it's still a conversation all year whether or not it's him , lebron , or AD.... the cavs.... who had 50 wins in the east and were the 4 seed . Hardens 14-15 campaign was more impressive than this .

People just don't like harden . If he gives an inch , they take a mile . Curry hits a step back 3 .... it's on ESPN top plays for a week . Harden has a 60 or triple double it gets talked about for a day . Harden looks lost on D ... shaqtin MVP .... curry does the same , and the line is "at least he tries hard ."

 

Allowed 76 points in the paint. And Lakers can only score in the paint. Allow 80 points in the paint on Saturday?

 

Curry won't win another MVP while Durant is in GS either so what's your point?

You're right, the MVP is about narrative but Your example isn't applicable here. Try Davis or even Lebron. Davis looked 3X better than Harden in the first game anyway.

My point is that harden (while he has his faults ) never gets the benefit of the doubt .

You could comb through game tape for every player and find a few lapses . It seems like harden has his game scrutinized to an extreme extent .

No one uploaded or talked about his good defensive plays from game 1 .... and there were plenty

 

I didnt want to roast after watching the first game, but if you think it was a few isolated plays, you were not paying attention. It was absolutely abysmal effort from Harden and just as bad from Melo.

 

Sad that ESPN shows that level.... Most of those mistakes were not done by Melo. Lol. This is not a random fan made video, it's by ESPN. Ridiculous. Whoever made that video should be fired of a serious professional TV like tomorrow.

 

actually melo is a significant part of those mistakes. the clip illustrates he doesn't understand the system, the scheme, and fails to react at all, which is obvious. he was a downgrade to the rockets defense from the beginning

 

Having Melo and Harden playing at the same time may not be a good idea defensively

 

the harden hate there is next level, i stopped checking that stupid ass page out last season because of that.

Disagree. The clip shows 3 defensive plays.
First one is Harden's fault, gets lost as usual.
Second one is Gordon's fault with the suicidal move doubling too early to get a steal. There is no possible help in that situation.
Third one is also Gordon's fault, losses his man.
And the clip is highlighting Melo all the time. Ridiculous.

 

you can disagree if you want. this is a perfect example of people that dont understand defense and actual scheme. anyone who thinks this is some kind of ymca defense will try to make themselves believe melo has no fault here

first one is not harden's fault. its melo that's stuck in the middle of nowhere. he gets the softest screen.. harden knows bc hes been part of this system that gordon is going to soft double, so he goes to show off gordon's man. that then is supposed to shift to melo and him covering anything behind harden. the hardest play is a cross court pass on this possession, which is what houston gives up with guys like ariza/moute on the floor bc they can react and recover with instinct and understanding. melo on the other hand nope. just an example of melo not being able to react or know what hes supposed to do.

2nd one. melos mistake once again. the scheme obviously is sending some kind of double bc it happens yet again. see the theme yet? melo not understanding, gets stuck in mud not understanding the hardest play is a cross court pass that they're trying to make nop do. easy layup as a result of melo being stuck in the middle of nowhere as he doesnt know hes suppossed to slide over

3rd one. what are you even watching. mirotic is melo's man. there was no pick or screen whatsoever. gordon's man is in the corner which once again hou is trying to make nop make the cross court play. melo gets stuck in mud. easy layup.

what they were doing is a mirror image of what they were doing to KAT in the opening round of the playoffs. it obviously worked bc of the personnel hou had. these examples clearly show the difference of then and now. Instinctual high IQ rotations are absolutely vital to a switch everything defense. it shows the rockets have a ton to work on if they want to even get close to what they were last year, especially when they still don't have their ariza replacement

No dude, you are the one wrong. First one is Harden and is easy to realize. Look at his reaction...
About the doubling to Davis, even D'Antoni said that the Rockets were "doubling too early". (https://www.chron.com/sports/rocket...defensive-issues-in-opener-fixed-13318361.php). You can't double like Gordon does, you do it when the big guy puts the ball on the floor, not before. That's a suicide move and terrible decision making by Gordon.
On the 3rd, initially Gordon is with the corner guy and Melo with Mirotic. You can tell that Melo does not comunicate the cut (maybe, we can't hear it), but Gordon stays in the middle of nowhere. He points the corner guy like recognizing he is staying in the lane for the double team, "somebody get my guy". He stays there and can't see Mirotic cut? Then he doesn't double neither, does nothing. It is a common defensive mistake by Gordon if you know him.
