I noticed from the last two games that CAT totally ignored YAO at the offense end. I couldn't understand why CAT play like that? If CAT cannot change his playing style, I would like to say that ROX is hopeless. Anybody has answer to it?
First quarter Yao couldn't do anything with the fronting defense, but he made the adjustment in the second quarter but I noticed that Cat had ignored Yao in a few occassion when Yao clearly won the battle of postion It's also pretty obvious that CAT refused to use Yao's screen, he would go the other way, if he having something against Yao??? LL
It's been awhile since we've had a Cat bashing thread I started a pretty good one early on in the season that was an absolute barn burner Cat didn't have a good game tonight, but it was just a bad game all around from everybody except for Francis, MoT, Padgett, and Yao when he got the ball
This has been explained countless times times, but I'll explain it again: Yao's not going to get the ball if 1. he is getting shoved around by his man and can't get position, and 2. there are 3-4 defenders surrounding him in the paint. When the situation is number 2, one of the perimeter players is going to have to take a shot. That means Mobley, Francis, etc. Aside from running a few cuts every now and then, there's really nothing else you can do. When a player has a man in front of him and behind him, especially when that player can't jump and has a hard time catching the ball on occassion, You CANNOT pass him the ball. That's just a fact. Mobley's brief hot streak was one of the things that got us back into the game at one point, so I don't really know what you are complaining about.
I would have to agree also. When got the ball in the fourth he was 2 for 2 downlow. I can understand the times when Yao doesn't have the position. But even when he gets it. Mobley never passes to him. For some reason whenever Yao is posting the Rockets always start the offense on the opposite side of the court. I just don't understand. Yao definitely needs to stop getting pushed around, but when he gets position they have to give him the damn ball. Cuz he shoots the highest percentage and he still likes to pass.
This isn't the army, people don't get PUNISHED. Cat's been playing well, and he feeds off the team. Since Yao and JJ weren't on tonight, he couldn't get his off the ball game going, leading to some easy buckets.
So the player(s) who have been bashed are: October/early November: Cat late November: Steve December: Yao and Steve early January: JJ mid January: (back to) Cat Do you see a pattern here?
Yes. He must be given a sound reprimand. Seriously though, just picture the headlines if they really did. "Mobley punished for not passing to Yao in triple coverage". I'd love it if you guys were in charge of writing all Rockets articles in the Chronicle for a week. Actually just read your own posts and if you are an intelligent person, you'll be somewhat annoyed, and then greatly annoyed as you continue read the same crap over an 82 game stretch. Cat is a SHOOTING GUARD. He's either going to be bashed for a low shooting percentage or a high amount of turnovers. So which is it? He has to take the shots when NO ONE is open. What do you not understand? The man can't win.
6 assists versus 1 turnover for a 2 guard? Face it, the Rocks just did not shoot well....it happens. DD
Yeah, just like the league has players of the month so does this board but unlike the league we don't praise them...we bash them.
I'm pissed we missed out on bashing Amaechi. If that guy hadn't been so lazy we could've had at least 3 more wins. So when do we start bashing Boki?
I think Cat shares some of the blame for this loss but overall this was a team loss. Should Mobley have passed down low more? Probably but at the same time Yao should've rebounded more, Francis should've sunk those shots in the fourth, Cato shouldn't have fouled as much and all of them should've hit more free throws. Lets not single out one player.
I watched the game... it was okay. Mobley took some bad shots, steve took some bad shots, but Memphis has a SWARMING defense. No other way to describe it. There was a few instances where he could have passed to Yao, but there's a few every game. He's not a specific offender tonight.
Amen. Some people just love to coin the loss on one of the Gaurds. I mean seriously You cant blame this one on any specific player. I was hoping Yao had a better game, especially against the likes of Swift/Pau/Wright, but he was pused around like a rag doll. He got the ball stripped away so easily its not even funny.
What I hope is that CAT becomes a team player. Smith for TNT also said that CAT dribled too much but did not let YAO get involved in offense.
Not all the time though. In Q1, I almost shot my TV to bits when Yao's in position and Mobley was dribbling with his eyes on the floor! How long do you want him to hold the position? In a fast game like this, you just have a split second of passing window. So if they are interested to involve the big guy, they should be more vigilant. Don't dribble with your eyes on the floor, or your back to the opponent's basket like in the previous game when Yao was all alone. If he (actually this applies to the rest of the team as well) got Yao involved early, we might not have had an uphill battle. When Yao had a hot hand early in the game, it usually has an uplifting effect to the whole team as well. Or may also have a demoralising effect on the opponents. Intentional or not, Mobe clearly doesn't know how to make imaginative pass or unless he's within 6 feet of the big guy. Even though we lost tonight, there isn't much to feel ashamed about. Memphis hit the important shots at the right time, and those long rebounds were just flukes. Finally I must say SF tonight has changed my impression towards him somewhat. I used to be an SF hater. He did really good tonight. He put up a couple ill-conceived shots near the end. But nobody's perfect.
