Robert Mueller, Former F.B.I. Director, Is Named Special Counsel for Russia Investigation

So...some of Trump's allies in the House make statements about an interview, without revealing any of the interview (it's confidential), and make brash statements to the media about how it's the Democrats that colluded. And, we should believe them...why?

I'm all for ensuring that the process is sound to get a proper, fair investigation, but the actions that Trump and his allies are taking to try to discredit or get the investigation shut down continue to make him look guilty as hell. The thought that continues to come up: if he's innocent of these charges, he should welcome the investigation.

 

And shock... this is leaked only to fox news (and probably gateway pundit).

Heres comes the constitutional crisis. I, for one, am excited. I have never watched a government collapse first hand before.

 

I hear you, but I think we've been watching it first hand ever since the mid-1990's when Newt started his contract-on-America. It worked. Gut shot.

But I think this is going to end very badly. GOP will line up behind Two Scoops for near term stability, no matter what that means for the sanctity and legitimacy of checks-and-balances.

 

The GOP doesn't want checks and balances in the near or far term. This is their moment to enforce one-party rule and it looks like they aim to make the most of it. Getting behind Two Scoops to solidify their hegemony is just a small cost to pay.

 

The thing is, and I mean this: I fear a more-distant future leftist autocratic government as much as I fear a less-distant winger autocratic government. They think they know what they're playing with, but they certainly do not and cannot understand all the consequences of eroding the system to such a degree.

 

I will be happy to see the report and hear about all the details even if I don't have faith in a Republican controlled congress to take the proper action and look after the welfare of our nation.

I would like to find out the details and evidence for myself. So I could know and dream about what type of justice I would like to see done.

I am concerned with an autocratic government, no matter the party. Our institutions must persist and distance left-wing oppression won't mean much if the current right-wing authoritarians succeed in eroding our institutions and dominating our society. The fight is now.

We'll just have to agree to disagree about the GOP knowing what they are playing with. I believe they do know. And, for decades, have played cynical political games to get the policies they want, but seems that, since a black president came along, they have taken the gloves off and gone all in on disrupting our institutions and thwarting democratic participation in our civil society. And the extraordinary efforts under way to suppress black and minority votes in Georgia, the Carolinas, and elsewhere provide ample proof of the extent to which the GOP is abandoning democratic government for their preferred flavor of authoritarian rule. Combine that with they way they blocked Democrats from appointing judges and they way they are currently packing the courts, including the Supreme Court, and I think the picture is clear that GOP leadership is targeting the weakest points of our system of governance. They know what they are doing.

And so on. Your claim is worse than just wishful thinking, @Commodore, because it ignores substantial publicly available evidence (especially of obstruction). Seriously.
