I saw it too and fell out laughing. I was wondering if anybody else saw it. As far as Brady goes, he's not a spectacular quarterback but he picks teams apart with precision. He spreads most defenses thin. He plays to his strengths very well. On a sidenote that was one of the most physical football games I've seen in a long time. The Colts recievers were getting PUNISHED everytime a ball was thrown their way, regardless of if they made the catch or not. Thats how your supposed to play football.
wait a second... peyton has a guy on pace to break all the receiving records...and a running back who rates among the best in the game...and he continually comes up short in big games. OR brady is on a team that is nearly running back by committee...he has no big name, big play receivers...and he consistently make the big play in a big game. he has that team converting on third down about as well as any team i've ever seen play. screw stats...stats are for computer geeks. when that dude steps on the field, his team wins...and if you're watching the pats play, it's clear to see he has a HUGE role in that.
Two years ago, I don't think anyone would have expected Belichick to pick Brady over Bledsoe. Bledsoe was clearly the better quarterback at the time but the Pats played better with Brady at QB. The main difference that I saw was that it appeared that the offensive line protected Brady better but I think that Bledsoe was just holding the ball longer. Brady would go through his progressions and throw the ball away if nothing was there. Bledsoe would seem to always try to make something happen because he was a star. Another difference was that it seemed that Bledsoe would always throw to Terry Glenn and when Ben Coates was playing he would only throw to Coates and Glenn. Brady speads the ball around which is an important part of the the Pats offense now. While Manning, like Bledsoe, may be the better quarterback, I don't think that it is as clear which quarterback is better for the Pats.
Would Bill Walsh have taken Marino over Montana?? No way because Montana was the perfect QB for his system. I think Belicheck takes Brady over Manning for the same reason. You need a QB who understands game management and is accurate enough to hit the flares and hitches. Also, Brady does not take as many chances as Manning and as we've seen, he doesn't choke. But another great thing is Brady can do a Bledsoe or Manning if you let him loose. Remember how he tore it up the beginning of last year when they went to the passing game more. Really, it seems like you hate the Patriots and Brady for the same reason: you cannot understand how they succeed. That's actually the reason I pull for this team: they dominate when they should be average. If I lived in the Boston area, the Patriots would be a breath of air, compared to the classless Red Sox and the clueless Celtics.
I'm taking about YOU Manny Ramirez. Well, not really you but the real Manny Ramirez. By the way, Schilling pickup helps in the class area but I do think management has been classless with the whole ARod dealings (from a Nomar point of view). Anyways, Theo has assembled a great team. If you're like me, you can't wait for March to come around and not just because its time to fill out some brackets!!
Haha. Yea, that whole situation with Nomar sucks because now they will probably never be able to re-sign him. Oh well, got to have faith that Theo will do something, whether that is going out and getting a great SS for the 2005 season or if it is something else. What do you think about the Angels' moves? Do you think that they edge out Seattle and give Oakland a run for their money to win the AL West?
First, apologies to haven for making this into a baseball thread. Manny, if you guys had gotten ARod, then you would have had an offseason like the Angels. They got one of the top players in the world in Vlad and an ace in Colon. Will it be enough?? Well, they have a very formidable 3-4-5-6 (Anderson, Vlad, Glaus, Salmon) and a terrific bullpen (Donalley, FRod, Percival). But, their starting pitching is the key. Colon has ace like stuff but doesn't always perform ace-like. Will he also stay in shape now that he has a big contract? I'm not sold on Escobar but he's not the key. The key is if Washburn can find his 2002 form and can Ortiz be consistent. Also, this team has health problems all over the place, including Vlad (but moving Erstad to 1B will help). Then again, the A's and Seattle have huge issues of their own. So, it should be a repeat of 2002, with these 3 teams going down the wire. One thing to watch is Guillen and Vlad at the corners. Seeing Guillen's arm last year was awesome and to hear that Vlad has a better one... I'm not really sold on the 2nd place finisher in the AL East being the wildcard. How do you feel about the Orioles' and Blue Jay's moves? Its gonna be a little harder to count on victories against those teams.
I definitely think that Toronto is the better of the two as their offense is right there with Boston with Delgado, Wells, etc. They have made some nice minor moves with their pitching, but I couldn't really tell you off-hand what they did other than signing Ted Lilly, heh. I just think that Baltimore is going to have all kinds of chemistry problems and their pitching is below average right now. Instead of throwing all that money at Tejada, Javy Lopez, and Guerrero (even though he didn't sign), they should have been trying to figure out a way to improve their pitching. Sorry, but I am not sold on Sidney Ponson being an ace of a staff. But both the AL West and AL East should be interesting - I can't wait for it to start!
Tom Brady is overrated, he plays in a system that allows him to avoid the rush and deliver the ball quickly, much like Rich Gannon last season, he is simply a QB who is good enough not to **** up and that's about all.
wow..i've seen a lot of quarterbacks who've been called "great" or "very good" who've done a whole lot less with a whole lot more to work with.
Max, You have to take what moe says about Brady and the Pats with a grain of salt. HINT: Don't mention to him a certain rule that starts with a "T"
I sense a lot envy for Brady and the Pats. The hate for the Pats because they have fair weather fans is laughable, seeing as the core audience of this site is home to the apathetic city of Houston that gave no support to the Oilers. Glass house people. There's a reason for the Toyota center looking half empty and quiet most of the time. I'll just say Brady is a great game manager and more importantly... a WINNER.
exactly right...put pressure on him, and he'll throw interceptions. when i think of the great QB's, I think of them scrambling like crazy and getting off some pass to make a huge play. elway, montana, favre. while that's not the sole criteria to be a great qb, i'm thinking i throw brady in that class a lot quicker than i do manning. and by the way...he's not trent dilfer. that's absolutely absurd. we could all see that the ravens, even when they won a super bowl, where a very mediocre offense. the pats are not a mediocre offense. again, they convert like crazy on 3rd down and whenever they need a big play, they seem to get it. i can't say that about dilfer.
Dont get me wrong, I think Favre is a good qb but I think he is a little overrated. I lived in Wisconsin and I watched him play a lot. He has always had weapons around him (a la Manning) but has always been prone to launching the ball up and praying one of his guys pull it down. Case and point, the Eagles game. What kind of idiot launches the ball in the air like he did?
As much as I hate to say it, Elway and Montana are in a higher class than Favre. I liked Montana but I still cant stand Elway. I think Marino was a better qb than Favre even though he never won a Super Bowl.
