I don't know how many of you watched this show growing up, but they're having a 48 hour marathon on TV Land. Tim Conway is freaking hilarious. I forgot how hysterical this stuff is. They can go ahead and cancel Mad TV and SNL and put this in its place and I swear the ratings would go up.
I've caught quite a few of those episodes while recovering from a strained back. Carol Burnett is one talented lady. That skit where she plays Charo's mother is hilarious.
I remember watching it with my mom when I was little. Although I don't remember much I do remember Tim Conway making me laugh all the time. My favorite is when they can no longer hold it in and they start laughing during the skit.........It gets worse and worse and worse.
It was the funniest variety show in the history of television IMO. I used to watch it with my Mom on channel 39 every night. I loved it when they would break character and start laughing. It was actually real when they did it unlike when Jimmy Falon does it on SNL. Tim Conway is one of the funniest physical comics of our time. That show was the perfect vehicle for his talent. He and Harvey Coreman made a great straight guy/dumb guy team. Great chemistry. I loved Conway playing the really slow old guy too. Carol Burnett is an amazingly talented and funny woman. I wish they would do a reunion show. That cast could do anything. They had such great chemistry.
I honestly don't know when the last time I laughed so hard was. Tim Conway's Nazi skit had me rolling all over the floor in laughter. What kills me is how he really tries to make Lyle Waggoner and Harvey Corman bust out laughing in the middle of a skit. I don't think Corman ever did a skit with Conway where he didn't start laughing midway through it. What's odd is I never really appreciated the show that much as a kid. Most of the skits have intelligence to them no matter how stupid they seem. They're not like so many SNL skits where you're just sitting there wondering "why in the hell did I just waste 5-10 minutes of my life watching that?" or "what did I just watch?". Oh well, enjoy it while you can...
