Question for Tim or anyone that knows: Will the Rockets be wearing their throwback jerseys anytime this season? Didn't I hear something about JVG not letting our players wear throwbacks?
the NBA lists the teams participating in the "Hardwood Classics Nights" here: http://www.nba.com/history/classics_031120.html it's really too bad. our old ketchup-and-mustard unis are a real throwback to and "uglier" time. personally, i think if we "throwback" next year we should go with the green and gold San Diego unis for a change. Rocky Widner NBAE/Getty Images NEW YORK, Nov. 20 -- The NBA and its teams will celebrate the past with a series of retro games entitled NBA Hardwood Classics Nights. As part of NBA Hardwood Classics Nights, 12 teams will honor their history by commemorating franchise milestones, anniversaries, and legendary teams and players with retro uniforms, special ceremonies, in-arena entertainment and promotions. The first NBA Hardwood Classics games will take place on Thanksgiving Night with a doubleheader on TNT starting at 8 p.m. ET with the Indiana Pacers hosting the New York Knicks, followed by the Los Angeles Clippers hosting the New Jersey Nets. This is the third consecutive season that NBA teams have recognized their past with a themed night. Too bad, our throwbacks were the best looking ones last season. Anyways, finishline.com has our Nike Swingman Jerseys on sale, from $70 to $49, I just ordered one. The Nike Swingman look a whole lot better than Reebok, the stuff is actually embroided.
We're not doing any throwback nights this year -- getting the new uniform out has been a big enough challenge to take on. I just had a conversation with the league Monday about doing throwback games next season, though. Nothing is final yet, but we're leaning towards doing a few. One of the big issues, though, is that Reebok can only handle a certain number of teams per year -- and everybody wants into the program. Tim
Thanks Tim. Speaking of Reebok, most of the new rockets jerseys I've seen in the mall are made by them. Can you explain to me the reason why I've seen Nike rockets jersey's also?
Thanks for the update Tim. I hope ya'll market them a lot more next season, we have one of the best throwbacks in the league and they could be huge sellers. I was in a Austin Mall today and they had throwbacks like crazy, sure would be nice to see some beautiful red and yellow.
Does anyone know the rules for having an alternate jersey? I would love to see the Rockets have an alternate jersey. I hope we do get the Throwback thing next season
The Rockets should get an alternate silver/red road jersey. The Maverick's alternate was ugly, it looked like they were wearing trashbags.
A team is eligible to have an alternative road jersey (the "third jersey") in the second year after a uniform change. I believe you are limited to wearing the third jersey 4 times a year, but I'd have to check the operations manual to see if I remember the limit correctly. A new rule this year is that a team can elect to wear it's road jersey at home up to four times a year. That rule I know by heart, because we were one of the teams requesting it. As for retro jerseys -- there's production capacity for roughly 8-9 teams a year, and the league makes a decision on which teams get to do retro in March. We've applied for next year. As for us, we'll probably be doing it the third year. Reebok is still catching up to production demand on the current uniforms. Tim
that doesn't sound right Tim, New Jersey seem to alternate between there Grey and Blue away uniforms whenever they like
