Just caught this on Fox Sports. Rodriguez is tempted to join the Tigers this offseason. The marlins have not been very active about giving Pudge the desired contract. I don't know the figures but the offer from the Tigers has to be big. Going from the best team in the League to the worst can't be much fun. The Tigers had 119 losses last season. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1710722
Well, if he joins the Tigers, he can be the 2nd Rodriguez to be making all kinds of money while playing for a team that is crap.
That's true. I didn't think about that. The Tigers are so bad. I would never join such a terrible club. Like you said, just look at Alex and how unhappy he is in a Ranger uniform right now. He wanted to leave this offseason.
But if you listened to ARod before he signed with the Strangers, er Texas, he would have you believe he was all about winning! When in truth, he is all about the bling bling. Pudge probably doesn't care that he will be playing on such a bad team now that he has a world series ring.
Haven't the Tigers signed some decent talent this offseason. Vina pops to mind, but I'm sure there's more.
what a terrible move...by all sides. pudge is an aging catcher...those guys aren't the kinds of players you give 4 year contracts to detroit...what a waste of money. they already suck and they dont need to waste it on an aging catcher. pitching is what they need. if anything they need a veteran pitcher to lead their young guys. why would they even think about hitting? i know their hitting sucks, but they made a pitchers ballpark. what the hell are they using it for if they dont have any pitching.
That's what everyone said when he joined the Marlins last year. But what most people doesn't know is that Pudge can singlehandedly turn franchises around and lead them to the promised land.
$40M for 4 years is the offer on the table. I agree that they really need to up their pitching, but they also scored fewer runs than anyother team last year. They had 50 some games where they scored 2 runs or less. Not to mention that Dave Dombrowski needs to prove he can land a big named FA. Plus getting Pudge might get other big name FA's to go to Detroit. Right now Detroit has nothing to offer but cash, if they can show that they are serious about not just spending money, but getting the best talent available it may attract other talent.
Amen. A 32-year-old catcher with almost 10,000 put-outs don't tend to age very well. Plus, he really sucked in the second half last season. He was *brilliant* in the post-season and is likely one of the top 5 all-around catchers of all-time, but there's not a chance in hell he plays 120 games this year. And Detroit? A four-year-deal?! The Tigers would have to re-animate Babe Ruth and Walter Johnson to compete in the next four years. Why sign an aging catcher to a team that won't compete until 2009 at least? I've been reading about comparisons to Florida. No comparison. Ain't the same ballpark, ain't the same league, ain't even the same freaking sport. Florida had/has lots of underrated talent like Beckett, Lee, Lowell and Castillo. Detroit has eight Little League rejects.
as long as he's not going to the cubs, i'm just fine. i support him in his push to go back to the AL. run, pudge..run like the wind!! run far...far, far away. we got a freaking pennant to win here.
I was thinking the samething. I am glad the cubs didn't get him since they did show interest. Speaking of the Cubs, they didn't get that guy from the Braves did they? I can't remember his name right now.
