    Because he knows the reason why they want the delay, and it has nothing to do with the FBI gathering exactly the same statements that they already have that show Ford's allegation is completely unfounded. Delay has been the goal since day 1.

    This is the guy who suggested explicit sexual questions to president Clinton during his Starr investigation.

    He knows full well what to expect out of a political process that will try to smear his character. He should've braced himself if he wants to succeed.

    One, he hasn't said that at all. If that's why he doesn't want it, say it.

    Two, its his good name. It's up to him how he wants to respond. As someone suggested a one week FBI investigation followed by say another 3-4 days to review and vote gets him on the Supreme Court, or finds info that doesn't. The delay itself does nothing relative to his position as a SC nominee.
