Training Camp 9/25/18: Coach D'Antoni https://www.nba.com/rockets/video/teams/rockets/2018/09/25/2267750/1537908587380-CoachMDA-226775
as a regular stomper on feigen's work here, he's actually provided some nice insight w/ those articles today
What do you mean? He just got a deflection on that pass and he recovered back to Chris after. Chris Paul just made a good play.
So who was the fifth starter? (assuming no Butler) Guessing EG? That brings the most continuity to the starting lineup, since everyone was here last year. Also the reason why we brought EG off the bench to begin with was because Ariza fit with the starters better as a 3 and d guy. With Ariza gone, there's really no excuse now. This also builds EG's trade value for an upgrade later.
"It feels good we don't have to work on the conditioning aspect," Harden said. "We can just work on focusing on the details and just play. Once we play and get familiar with each other again, all the wrinkles we'll pick up." I thought Harden was pregnant!
he actually fouls chris w/ the arm just below the FT line instead of moving his feet back, which is the exact concern i've had w/ his D coming into this season: foulprone and not so quick feet
Ennis was never really known for elite defense, just passable. People call him a 3 and d guy but he's really not great at either, its just about the only two things he can do at an NBA level. The one thing he is great at is transition offense, hoping for upgraded Brewer.
if he doesn't fill a 3 and D role that's needed here badly, then hes going to struggle to contribute to this team. especially when transition isn't a big part of hou's offense
this is exactly how i see him as well. he is going to be miles better than ariza on the break. but on D will not be nearly as cerebral a defender, both teamwise rotating and man-to-man. maybe he'll get more rebounds. hopefully he worked on his catch & shoot three over the summer...
He does fill a 3 and d role, he's just not great at it, that's why he was signed for the minimum. Now he can outperform that on the Rockets because 3 and d guys (even just so so ones) are more valuable next to elite creators, which not every team has and the Rockets have two of. Also every team would love to have transition be a part of their offense, that's the most efficient offense in the NBA. Nobody goes in saying oh I'd rather play half court. But you need the personnel for it, you need runners. Who was that for the Rockets last year? No one. Ennis will help with that this year.
Doesn't matter if he's known or not, he has never played elite defense. So if people expect that from him this year they will be disappointed. He can still be a solid overall though.
so the rockets are going to add transition as a significant part of there offense just bc they signed a james ennis? I'll have to disagree there. the offense doesn't change to fit a guy like ennis. he has to adjust to what the rox already do.
What? Who said it will be a significant part? But if you have a guy running in transition whenever he's in compared to last year when there wasn't a guy like that, yeah transition will improve. Also that's not going to change the offense bro. A dude running on the break getting an open dunk is not an offensive scheme, its just running hard and ability to finish. D'antoni isn't gonna be like, hey stop getting those layups, "fit with us" whatever that means. lol
i don't see that at all. getting out in transition isn't something the rockets do. a few buckets here and there are a given but not something this system employs. that's why the rockets led the lead in slowest pace. that's not changing just bc a james ennis is here you keep talking about there wasn't a guy like that. i guess you've forgotten how many breakaway layups ariza got all year. pretty close to atleast once every game. but again not something that's a big part of this team to just run and go. they play at pace primarily
