It's semi-offtopic but I was voting for the top 25 and Dream wasn't even on the list!!!! They got athletes like Mia Hamm, Serena Williams, some guy that dominated the 80 Olympics, A-Rod (c'mon!! A-Rod?!?), Shaq and Duncan but no Dream. That's like ridiculous. THey had a total of four NBA players on there: Bird, Magic, Shaq and Duncan. It's ridiculous.

*Selected in 1996 as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History

*Is one of only eight players in NBA history with over 20,000 points and 12,000 rebounds in his career

*Is the NBA s all-time leader with 3,830 career blocked shots

*Passed Oscar Robertson for seventh on the NBA’s all-time scoring list 12/16/02 vs. Washington with his 26,711th point

*Named 1993-94 NBA MVP in 1994 and NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1992-93 and 1993-94

    *Named to the All-NBA First Team six times (1986-87 to 1988-99, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1996-97), the All-NBA Second Team three times (1985-86, 1989-90, 1995-96) and the All-NBA Third Team three times (1990-91, 1994-95, 1998-99)

    *Named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team five times (1986-87, 1987-88, 1989-90, 1992-93, 1993-94) and the All-Defensive Second Team four times (1984-85, 1990-91, 1995-96, 1996-97)

*A member of the Houston Rockets' 1994 and 1995 back-to-back NBA champion teams, earning Finals MVP honors both seasons, and also appeared in the 1986 NBA Finals

*Has played in 12 NBA All-Star Games (1985-1990, 1992-1997), starting 8 times and averaging 9.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 1.92 bpg

*Recorded the third quadruple-double in NBA history, with 18 points, 16 rebounds, 11 blocked shots and 10 assists, against the Milwaukee Bucks on 3/29/90

*Shares the NBA Finals record for most blocks in a game with 8 against the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the 1986 NBA Finals

*Named to the 1984-85 NBA All-Rookie Team, was runner-up in the Rookie of the Year voting after averaging 20.6 ppg, 11.9 rpg and 2.68 bpg

the other day they were showing the top 10 most memorable playoff experiences and they put hakeem's 1995 playoff run where he dominated 2 of the 50 greatest nba players to ever play the game (shaq and robinson) at #8, while they put tim duncan's playoff run last year, where he dominated jason collins, one of the nbas 50 biggest scrubs ever, at the #3 spot. whoever makes these lists at espn is a total idiot

I loved Hakeem, and if it was only the top 25 basketball players I'd understand --- but he is not one of the top 5 basketball players of all time and certainly not one of the top 25 athletes of all time.

    Bird
    Jordan
    Magic
    Wilt

were in a different level then everyone else

Yeah, I'm more surprised that Shaq is on the list than Hakeem not being on it.

but the crazy thing is this list the the top 25 players in the past 25 YEARS...not ALL TIME. That's what got me pissed off. That's from 1979 up until present day. Shaq nor Duncan ever got their teams to the NCAA championships, and they sure as heck did not dominate like Dream did....they can't even make their free throws!!!! it's really REALLY stupid to leave Dream off when you can have the balls to put A-Rod on there...

Why are you guys surprised that Shaq is on the list and not Olajuwon? Shaq plays in LA, has more rings, more MVPs, and has always been more marketable than Olajuwon. I always thought that Olajuwon was underated and not as recognized as he should have been. Olajuwon should have made the list over Duncan though.

It was the top 25 athletes of the last 25 years, from 1979 to the present.

I saw the SportsCenter top 10, and couldn't believe Hakeem was 5 spots below Duncan. There is no excuse for that. What Hakeem did in those playoffs is unmatched. He was unguardable for the entire playoff run. His numbers were huge. He dominated the best players in the league.

Hakeem will never get the respect he deserves. He didn't get it from the fans in Houston (I remember this board well in 2001), and outsiders could care less. He's got mine, for what it's worth.

    LOL

SERIOUSLY... THIS IS WHY I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM W/ STEVE & YAO MAKING THE ALL STAR TEAM/GAME. OUTSIDE OF HOUSTON WE GET ALMOST NO RESPECT OR CONSIDERATION. THE REASON I SAYING THIS IS B/C THERE ARE SOME NAY SAYERS OUT THERE THAT SUGGEST SF IS NOT DESERVING OF THE STARTING IN THE ALL STAR GAME.

If its the top 25 players in the past 25 years I totally agree Hakeem should be on there.

The problem is that this thing is driven by popular vote and the sad truth is that Hakeem never got the exposure he deserved, being rightfully overshadowed by Jordan and not so rightfully by Barkely and the legacy of Magic and Bird. Since the vote is being taken now it is also more likely that dominate players still playing will get more votes than players who have retired.
