"And watching Cuttino Mobley methodically plot his route to the bucket while the 24-second clock ticks down is a water-torture exercise for all concerned except Cuttino, possibly explaining why the Rockets are the worst-drawing franchise in the league." Giving a little too much credit to Houston "fans", aren't we, Dale? ------------------ "It's like saying there isn't enough offense in football, so let's go to three downs." --Rudy T on zone defenses in the NBA
THANK YOU thefreak! I was hoping someone would comment on that article. I hate all these houston sportswriters who like to criticize a sport they have never been a part of in any way, shape, or form. "Memo" to Dale Robertson: Get a clue. ------------------
That's not the only thing. Earlier on NBA on NBC the commentators basically blamed the rule changes on Rudy T and the Rockets and pretty much criticized them for changing the game when we won the championships. Man I'm tired of all the hate this team gets. SCREW THE MEDIA!!!!! ------------------
when during the philly game did they metion rudy? ------------------ Chris Webber at the July 28, 2001 3:00 PM news conference when he announces where he will go: "It seemed tough, but with guidance from Steve Francis, I learned my true destiny. That destiny is to play for the Houston Rockets, to bring them back to championship glory. One big man is all they need, and I believe I can fill that void. Thanks to the loyal fans in Sacramento, but Houston, Texas is where I belong."
I did not hear anything about anyone "blaming" Rudy, but if they did that is just ridiculous. A coach should be able to run anything he wants, it is his choice to use the teams strenths to help the team win. If I had the chance, I would ask some of these zone supporters and Rudy bashers what offense the Rockets should have run that would have made us better than what we are now. Do they expect us to throw it down to Cato and Mo all the time, two guys who do not post well? We have two of the best 1-on-1 players in the league, so we should be able to use them how we want. ------------------
I heard the comment too. I didn't consider it so much blaming as in faulting as I considered it a cause and effect for why the new rules were in place. I took it as "the Rockets dominated and took advantage of the rules, so things needed to be change". Also note, the announcers weren't talking about the current iso Rockets. I think it was Steve Jones, and he specifically mentioned Olajuwon and the 3 point shooting ability (~94). ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
