His weight and strength seem to be the only things holding him back from being a rotational player. He needs to get on the Capela conditioning programing ASAP.

What evidence is there that his strength is holding him back from getting rotation minutes?

    A) He's never been effective in the few minutes he's gotten, and it had nothing to do with his strength.
    B) He did look lost.
    C) He hasn't shown the ability to score easily from the inside, outside or mid range >> none of which require any more strength.

This is Porzingis his rookie season:

    This is Qi right now:

Being that weight/height did not stop Porzingis from dropping 14/7/2 his rookie season. Qi has things to work on:

    Language
    Shooting
    Quickness
Understanding where to be on defense

Qi can suck at this exact weight, and he can excel at this exact weight. He will improve in that department, but it's silly to think that's what's holding him back. He has sufficient physical tools to be a backup 5 if he can hit open 3's, rebound, block shots and not get embarrassed on switches.

This isn't the 90s NBA anymore. Weight is no obstacle. If you're touched, just hit the floor and the refs will take care of everything.

Physical and mental quickness are his biggest issues. Adding weight I think will make him a worse player and possibly make him injury prone. Having said that adding strength without adding weight would be very helpful.

To be fair, this guy is still a pansy. And he plays dainty on the perimeter. Not bashing on the boards. If we want Qi to play more like Ryan Anderson than Porzingis, that's probably OK though.

Zhou looks around 5-7% BF, getting much lower than that is dangerous. He must add muscle to get stronger, and that means getting heavier by muscle mass alone, which by no means is a bad thing.
