Best Case: Knight and Chriss both show that playing on a good team with a good coach makes a difference. Knight could have just kicked back especially on the Suns but he appears hungry for redemption and didn't harbor any grudges from being benched prior to last year. That's could be a good thing if he allows himself to play the role that the Rockets need and not be a disgruntled chucker off the bench. I'm hoping for the former. Chriss can easily become everything the Suns hoped he would be with Harden and Paul throwing up lobs, cleaning up put backs and protecting the rim (somewhat). As someone said earlier - 48 minutes of lob city to go with 48 minutes of all-star PG play. And if you really want to get carried away, they not only reach their potential on this team, but they make EG and Capela expendable for Dieng and Jimmy.

Worst Case: We broke Ryan's contract up into something more manageable. We still might have to trade a 1st to get back something useful but we have a better chance of finding a trade partner with a smaller contract than a 21MM as there are plenty more options in the 14MM and a 1st range. Chirss could turn out to be just an expiring but still useful in trades.

I see this somewhere in the middle but it's still a win for us because even the worst case is better than where we were on the 30th.

I guess both camps should slow down a little.

Those who think he is in our long term plans and those who think he is trade bait.

We are finding out as the season progresses.

you really think it's a foregone conclusion chriss' option for 2019-20 won't be picked up? i'm willing to at least see how the kid looks in preseason, he did just turn 21 and he was surrounded by clowns comprising the absolute worst team in the league.

as far as knight goes, best case scenario he turns into lou williams. but then the guy always gets injured anyways so we might as well just flip him midseason.

If you are sad about losing melton just think of it this way

If 2 months agp it was announced rockets trade anderson and a 2nd round pick for knight and chriss would you be upset?

No youd be like .... it only cost us a second to get a more moveable contract and we save tilman money in the short term? Sign me up

this sounds the most realistic to me... and it doesn't sound bad or 'worst case'. i'm happy to get a more tradable contract. $14M with a first is right where we want to be for johnson, bazemore, marvin.

    Here's how i see it-

Best Case: we can still flip knight for johnson/bazemore/marvin before camp... or at least by the deadline.

Worst Case: if nothing materializes by the deadline we wait for the summer when we have a $14M expiring contract to move with a pick or two. ending contract and picks are always a good package.

Pretty much what happened. The rockets just got a more than serviceable pg. you can’t really find a better backup than him on any other team. And he’ll only get limited minutes here. Far from some scrub some people think he is for whatever reason

He can still fight for minutes, and he can be used as a 3 in some certain matchups, but he was always an end of bench guy trying to fight for more.

Even if you can find a better backup, which you could, someone like Rozier with Irving back, Isaiah Thomas on Denver, Van Vleet, Schroeder is similar, with the Clippers multiple guards, one of their guys, Rondo, Corey Joseph is pretty good, Fultz is backup in Philly, Patty Mills, and Exum is also a nice backup but in general among backup PG's, he's probably average to above average, not the best among them, but not at the bottom.

How many of you were hoping to trade Anderson for Melo a year ago, and willing to throw in picks or players or eat bad contracts to make it happen? Melo's contract for this year was $28M. After a bad year for Anderson and Melo, Morey just got Melo for $2.4M. Add that to the $17.8M we're paying Knight and Chris this year, and you're looking at about $20M total. That's less than we were due to pay Anderson.

Anderson and our 2018 2nd rounder for Melo, Knight, and Chriss ... Yeah, I'll take it.

I dont like the idea of trading one of Gordon or Capella for Butler.

The only problem with this assessment is that this trade didn't include Melo. We would have Melo this season whether this trade happened or not. Yes, in the big picture, I'd applaud Morey for NOT giving up good asseets for Melo last offseason. But it has nothing to do with getting Melo for cheap this season and doing this trade.

IMO, this trade is good, but not great from the present POV. It might change later depending on how the pieces turn out.

Anderson for Knight is good simply because of the contract sizes. Neither player looks to be a substantial contributor.

Melton for Chriss is hard to tell. Morey's track records for 2nd rounders are impressive. His track records for picking up disappointing former high picks are pretty dismal. Just a thought.

Chriss will be great on the P&R with Paul and Harden. He has good hands and knows how to play around the basket. He is definitely an upgrade as the second center coming off the bench.

Worth noting. Every time the Rockets make a roster move, a signing or trade, Morey usually tweets a video of highlights from the player to welcome the fanbase to their play.

Morey has not done that so far with Knight and Chriss.
