"Monkey up" isn't used in the way you describe. Not that I can Google it all day long. Maybe he wanted to say "muck up" but it sounded too similar to the swear word, so another word fell into the sentence. Whether this was a Freudian slip, who can say.

 

Yeah, it really is though. It's not as common as saying "monkey around", but the meaning is clear to anyone not trying to push an agenda. If it seems like I'm condescending, perhaps it has to do with just how ridiculous it is for everyone getting their monkey up about something stupid like this.

I've found that the rate at which people believe me to be condescending is directly related with the level of stupidity in which is being dealt with.
