Glad to see Tucker trying to force his way back up. I expect next time he gets the call, whether in September or to start next season, he'll show he belongs as a fixture in the Astros lineup for years to come.
Position player depth sure has taken a hit, but a “High A and below top 10” of: Beer Bukauskas Schroeder Nova Arauz Ivey Solis Matijevic J Perez Javier Is pretty solid.
Nova is seasons away... But Beer looks promising. If he can master A+, he won't have trouble with Corpus not Fresno.
dontttttttttt call him up no more. Let him dominate triple a the rest of the way and then trade him for JT in the offseason. Astros are extremely thin in the farm system as far as catching prospects go. I've seen enough to know that I don't see him becoming a perennial all star. Worst case scenario... He makes the all star game once or twice, but JT will probably be the best catcher for the next 5 years barring injury.
This is a troll post, right? The kid had a .195 BABIP in 59 PA. He looked a bit overmatched at times but so does almost every 21 year old rookie. I’ve not seen nearly enough to start making silly declarations.
Yep. If we can land him, he's a good one to resign. Catchers like him are very hard to come by, and right now he's the best in the league, and younger than McCann and Maldonado. I'd love to go after him this offseason, if Alvarez is a non-starter, I'm sure we have plenty of other guys we can package over, our depth is really insane and we should look to at least try and alleviate the AAA logjam and get whatever value we can from guys like Davis, Fisher, etc.
In slightly better news, Kyle Tucker has two homers tonight. He now has 22 on the year. Ryan Hartman allowed a run on a solo homer, two other hits, and struck out seven in six innings for Corpus. In his last five appearances spanning 24.1 innings, he's issued one walk.
But did he steal a base? While you're at it, explain these splits to me, JJ Matejevic: vs RHP: .315 .387 .646 1.032 vs LHP: .155 .255 .226 .481
In three games since being returned to Fresno, Kyle Tucker is 10 for 15 with 5 home runs. He has raised his SLG 45 points in those 3 games.
Platoon splits have a **** load of noise in them. I'm sure on a true talent level JJ hits RHP at least slightly better than LHP, but it takes around 1,000 PA against LHP to tease that split out.
Freudis Nova is putting up one of the best GCL seasons for an 18 year old that Houston has seen over the last decade or so. 122 wRC+, 13.7%k, 805 ops. I can’t find another 18 year old Astros prospect since 2008 with 100+ GCL pa who had a 120+ wRC+ and struck out <20%. He’s put up better GCL numbers than Kyle Tucker, Brett Phillips, Jake Nottingham, Daz Cameron, and Carlos Correa did (Correa was only 17 though). Rio Ruiz is the last top prospect to have performed better than Nova in the GCL.
