Why didn't they just make Isolation offense illegal?

It makes no sense to me that you give teams MORE defensive options when you are trying to speed up the game.

The problem is not the defense it is the offense, or the lack of it.

The biggest problem is that there are too many unskilled players in the league.

However, that being said, why did they just not eliminate the ISO offense? Make a rule where you have to have a balanced set on the offensive end, if you end up with 1 guy alone on one side of the floor for more then 3 seconds call it illegal offense and go the other way.

    Simple...

    simple,

too much for the refs to understand. I guess they want to dumb down the rules for those idiot officials.

There is a rule on the books that makes Isolation offense illegal, its just not a very good rule, too many loopholes.

I think one of the advantages of this is that isolation offense will still be legal, they'll just have to do it quickly to prevent the other team from forming a zone. That means that the Rockets will be running and operating much faster. That makes me happy!

How about if you allow a zone defense only when a team goes iso on offense? Once the iso is set, no illegal defense can be called until the next posession. That way, a team could still try an iso, but it would need to go the basket quick before the defense could react with a zone. It would also keep the advantage of the illegal defense rule: basically no zones except in certain situations.

The league doesn't mind "iso" offense (Jordan), they just don't want the Rockets doing it. Watch--if Jordan comes back, these rules will be rescinded.
