What does this have to do with the United States?

If you want to start a thread just on South Africa and how unstable it is, go ahead. I have lots of opinions on that issue as I have experience in South Africa.

As a side note, anyone that is white in South Africa at this point is a fool not to get out. Apartheid crippled the black majority in SA. At this point, there is no real infrastructure in South Africa and the ruling black population will eventually take back all the land from the former white ruling class that foolishly has stayed.

South Africa is not a good place to be, a lot of instability and poor training and leadership.

I can understand why some of them might want to fight the racism of the oppressive majority in order to remain in their homeland.....the problem that they'll face is that the racism of the black population of South Africa is a socially acceptable type of racism meaning that the abuses by the South African government will be cheered instead of condemned.

South Africa was an extremely racist place for a long time. The black majority was subjects and not given any positions of authority. Over night, things changed and the leadership, population and structure in place are not experienced or trained well enough to lead.

You take that, and combine it will rampant crime and poverty...... and you have an absolute powder keg that is going to explode. There is a very high level of mutual racism in South Africa........ the difference now is that black Africans are starving or desperate, and their is NOTHING keeping them from taking from those that still have some wealth, typically land wealthy white Africans.

There is no doubt there is racism in South Africa. The situation is very deep and complicated and short of another group coming in and making the black Africans submissive again, it isn't going to change in our lifetime. You cannot destroy a culture and then say "here take over" in a country and expect it to work out.

The Chinese are like roaches, they essentially invest in and try to buy influence in areas we throw away or no longer feel are worth influencing. The Chinese are attempting to gain a foothold in South Africa and they are learning just how complicated the mess really is.

I don't doubt that there is "racism on both sides", but right now there is state sponsored racism looking to strip people of their property based solely on the color of their skin.....things that would be a huge issue internationally if it weren't black people being racist assholes against white people....something that is deemed acceptable.

I think ultimately the racist government of South Africa will continue to ruin the country until those who choose to remain finally fight back and start a civil war there. I would expect that the outcome will be that country breaking up into several different countries, all ethno-states, which is pretty much the worst case scenario, but it's what you get when racism runs rampant.

I wouldn't be so eager to knock what the Chinese are doing in Africa, it's not like America has a stellar history with the continent. As of right now, in general, African countries are benefitting from Chinese investments.

South Africa is a different story entirely. As you say, this is just what happens when a bunch of people are oppressed for years and finally get back some power. It really is its own story and since it was already a developed country it's not like any of the racial issues are even China's problem.

Europeans brought, built, and managed the modern infrastructure and economy of South Africa. It is almost purely a colonial manifestation.

And some people wonder why the whites of South Africa are so much more wealthy, similar to the situation here in the US.

@Nook is right: any white person in South Africa with half a brain is abandoning or has abandoned the country. Hence why I posted the commentary by the native South African now living in China.

    Yeah, the main similarities are...
    • Finding a spot in the world to land, decimating a native population involuntarily through disease
    • Then outright looking to exterminate the native population
    • Then deciding that other groups of people are lesser and depriving them of any opportunities
So yeah, it is pretty similar I guess in that case so it's no wonder the whites are much more wealthy in both situations when the wealth is built upon the backs of others.

    LOL!

No, actual cause and effect, I think you should learn the difference. It was you who said that the whites in South Africa are wealthier than the blacks because "They built it" and completely ignorant of history.

The fact that we cannot agree on this is amazing. What version of history do you subscribe to: that these things existed prior to the arrival of Europeans in the 1600's?

Mostly people don't actually wonder this - it's pretty well known. When one population controls all the political power and enslaves or oppresses the others, they tend to end up wealthier. This has happened throughout history independent of race. It's not terribly complex. The only people who wonder about these things are ignorant people such as yourself.

Honestly that's irrelevant to the point you were trying to make...

    You said...

    I followed with...

I mean, let's get past the fact that you think apartheid and slavery (since YOU keep bringing USA into this) is just 'what-aboutism' that's pretty...interesting...in itself...but you implied in your first post that white people in South Africa are richer because they built the country...

Correct me if I'm wrong and misrepresenting you...you are implying that the MODERN day white South Africans are richer BECAUSE they built the country...which ignores the fact that they took over the land and hogged IIRC around 70% of it...then oppressed the majority of the population, denying them education, opportunities, and mainly forcing them to be cheap labor.

I mean, unless I've read you wrong and that you are merely saying that yes, just like America, that White people benefitted off the oppression of others for so long and that's why they are richer...

Ok. You think that discrimination and confiscation of property is justified in South Africa and the United States because of past injustice. I don’t think that revenge is the answer in either case.

So that is why the Western and East Asian world are so much more wealthy than the rest of the world? Never mind that this was true in pre-Colombian times.

Tell me, what written records exist to show land claims in South Africa prior to the arrival of the Dutch?

The muslim world was where all the knowledge was. China was poor as **** for a while. Now they are the 2nd biggest economy in the world. Things change.

Charlize Theron is from South Africa. Many don't know that, great cinephiles like us do but not many.
(in other words I just found out thought she was Australian for some reason)

Interesting that your post reads as condoning what is happening or at least excusing it. Not to speak for OP but I think that's part of his point. When racism, discrimination, genocide, etc.. happen to white people the "left" is silent or they rationalize/excuse it. I mean just compare this to Palestinian/Jewish conflict. The original lands of 12 tribes of Judah have been ripped and striped from the Jewish people by everyone for thousands of years. Those lands originally would include parts of Lebanon, Jordan, Sinai, all of West Bank, etc.. Since the Jews started to try and regain (with purchase) their lands they are condemned as occupiers, murderers, ethnic cleansers, etc.. by the "left." Again, not speaking for OP but "racism is racism and it's bad" is a point that no one should try to argue against or excuse.
