As for why Jimmer was an NBA bust, I remember reading he refused to play (hard) off the ball. It was his own fault. He didn't have the speed or athleticism to create his own shot and his ego refused to allow others to do so.
Sad, JJ figured it out real quick. You can’t get your shot off you better be willing to run off screens.
Perhaps diva was the wrong term, but he was reported to have a hard time adjusting to being a role player in the NBA: https://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-j...779.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory&soc_trk=ma Attitude means a lot. Teams aren't looking for the absolute best players at every roster spot, they want guys that will fit in and not cause trouble. Jimmer is a way better player than Bobby Brown on paper, but Bobby was on an NBA team last year because guys like playing with him. Jimmer wasn't going to be the monster he was at BYU in the NBA and he didn't make the transition JJ Redick did to carve out a good NBA career. We can't say he didn't get a chance in the league because he had them.
He could have been a JJ reddick, but he chose to play like Steph Curry. I also don't remember his passing to be close to being good enough to warrant him having the ball at all times.
Jimmer did not fail for want of offensive talent. He was pushed out of the league because he could not defend anyone. You couldn't hide him on the worst offensive player on the opposing team because said worst offensive player was probably still good enough to light him up. Incidentally, this is also the major doubt about Trae Young belonging in the NBA.
