I’d think 2 of those guys could be included in a deal for Britton, along with say a 7-12 ranked organizational prospect as the centerpiece. And with patience (that the Astros don’t have a lot to spare) could become a nice player (like Colin Moran has)
ESPN saying Astros and Cubs trying to match prospects on Britton. Braves are more reluctant and may bow out
Luhnow watched the game yesterday and had an epiphany. Although I'm sure "all in" is an extremely liberal definition of what we are really willing to do to get him. I'm pretty much OK with trading any 2 prospects except the big 3 and would hesitate on Beer/C Perez in order to get Britton. All the other prospects are too far away to be confident in, or have a realistic ceiling that isn't all that high.
FYI: Players drafted this year cannot be traded until after the World Series. Cautiously optimistic on the Britton front. In Luhnow I Trust.
Basically, my thoughts match this. Astros have 3 guys that are nearly untouchable and pretty much everyone else on the farm is fair game.
Britton has like a 1.64 ERA or something like that since getting blown up in his first outing coming off injury. One would expect him to get stronger as the season goes on. Not much of an expert on the recovery process of an achilles injury but he looks good from what I've seen. Let's see where this goes.
Alvarez, a top 50 guy by pretty much all publications and as high as top 20 is likely with the second half updates
Seth Beer will be a much better player than Tucker and Alvarez. I would throw in Alvarez for Realmuto.
Probably Alvarez, C Perez should be 4. Bukauskas, Armenteros, etc would take a bigger player under longer control than Britton too include someone like that
Let's do it! Given Britton's age, the Astros can push for a 3 yr, 50 mil contract which is fine... because they can spend until 2022. And when getting a closer, you want the real deal, not borderline types like Iglesias.
Wow, bold statement. I respectfully disagree with it, but I do like the boldness of it. I think Tucker and Alvarez are going to be pretty good, so in a way, I actually hope you are right. Would make for an even scarier future for the rest of the league.
