At this point in the season, I am interested in seeing if Langhi can show. It looks like Rudy will give him time, now. Time is what I think Dan needs most. I'm not worried about his shot. He can shoot. Ask Calvin Murphy. What I noticed last night was... He was active. Rudy usually has him camp out at the 3-point line, and it looked like his primary responsibility after an offensive shot is put up is to get back on defense. A few times he crashed the boards. He was defending Marshall mainly, and I thought did a pretty good job. Marshall scored on him coming off a pick that he got no help on, but was in good position most of the time. He did turn his head once to find the ball and got burned on a back-door. He had 5 boards in 20 minutes. Not bad. Rudy ISO'd him a few times. He blew by Marshall once and drew the foul, but Utah was under the limit and he wasn't shooting. He picked up an offensive foul when Vaughn flopped. You could tell Rudy and the rest of the bench thought it was bs. Guess Vaughn's picking up the Utah system. Time is what he needs. ------------------
Maybe you're right - time is what he needs, but I have seen very little that makes me think Langhi will be make it in the NBA. A lot of people on this BBS are really high on him, but I just don't see it. ------------------ ..as a man danced so the drums were beaten for him. Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
During the pregame show, Langhi said that he's just now starting to find his groove. He said he began to get comfortable towards the end of the last game... Whether that means anything or not, I don't know. But it IS a big transition from playing heavy minutes and getting lots of shots, to coming off the bench and playing little minutes. Langhi summed it up pretty good when he said... "You can only practice so much. Game rhythm and practice rhythm are totally different, and I'm only now starting to find my game rhythm." Hopefully we'll see more of this game rhythm of his. ------------------ PrEsident of The Danforth Langhford FAN CLUB... He IS our future All-Star Small Forward
Well,as you know, Dan got 31 minutes, 5 boards and 13 pts. last night. The Comicle quoted him as starting to feel more comfortable, and I think he looked it. He was 4 for 8 in the second half last night. One thing I liked is he was mixing it up with Willis on several plays, not only on his dunk attempt. That shows attitude. Good quality. I think it's a big plus for the team to pick up rebounds from someone other than the guards. ------------------
I hate to dampen anyone's parade, but Langhi's 5 boards were nothing special from a 6'11" guy. He was outrebounded by Francis, Rogers, Cuttino, and Kelvin Cato for the Rockets (not to mention Kevin Willis' unbelievable game vs. his former club). I do like his upside, but Damn Lanky is still a ways away from reaching the potential. I do like the fact that Rudy is letting him play now that we've decided to mail the rest of the season in. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before. Yep. Langhi showed glimpses, but he just seems to be overmatched all the time. I think the reason the Rockets were attracted to him were his quickness and ball handling for 6'11" guy. Problem is, he just doesn't seem to get any benefit out of his height. For Langhi to be effective he needs to be utilized in a way that maximizes his advantages. To me, that would be playing him at the 3 and getting him to shoot over his opponent, much like Garnett does, but obviuosly on a smaller scale. He is not going to be effective banging away on the inside and trying to dunk over Kevin Willis ------------------ ..as a man danced so the drums were beaten for him. I look for him to log alot of minutes at the 3 A Front line of Collier Moe and Langhi has no banger no Post Presense anemic to sub decent rebounding BUT MAN DOES IT HAVE RANGE! Langhi needs to learn to post He should have the turnaround on any SF except Garnett. Passing out of the post is another thing I'd like out front line to give us about 8 asst a game Rocket River ------------------
Sam, the centers should outrebound the SF and Mobley and Francis have been outrebounding pretty much everyone else for a long time. Davo, I do agree that he will be most effective shooting over people. By the way, he did get 2 points from the free throw line by trying to dunk over Willis. The point I was trying to make, though, was he had the fire to go in there and try it. Don't forget, he had beaten his man off the dribble and Willis slid over to put the big body on him. By the way, did you catch Murphy's line right after that about Willis? Something like "Yeah, Willis likes to strut around and show off all those muscles. He couldn't break a grape, though." Pretty funny. ------------------
I agree with Sam, Last night Langhi got bounced around on rebounds...I mean, Bullard knocked him out of the way for one lol!
5 boards is nothing special. On the other hand, it is more than our starting power forward usually gives us. As active as he is, there will be games when he gets a lot more boards. He was in the air several times for offensive rebounds, but the shot dropped. He hasn't played at all this year. Last night was basically like his 2nd game in his rookie season. If he gets playing time, I surely won't need to defend him. ------------------
"I agree with Sam." I guess there's a first time for everything! I wish we could here from Dan's brother (Steve?) again. I'd love to hear his thoughts about Danforth finally getting some PT. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
