I don’t believe Lull actually exists. He is not mystical, but rather a myth.

i think melo has to ramp up his conditioning and maybe drop a little weight if he wants to maximize his production in our offense at his age. I'd love to see him come out in great condition. I think he's got to be in prime form for this to work.

But again, you might be able to get an above minimum player THIS year with the MLE. The non-bird off of an MLE deal is a reasonable option for keeping Melo and using the MLE on someone else next year, but depending on who is available, it may make sense to go ahead and get a player this year.

Before everyone says nobody available is worth that, lets just see who else gets bought out/waived. And Im waiting for the annual "Llull isn't coming" press release before moving on.

I definitely don't agree. Gordon is a great volume shooter. Shroeder is a pg who needs the ball in his hands, because he can't shoot at all. But his playmaking is nothing to write home about and he has never played defence in his life. He is not a starting caliber pg
If you have a team with great spacing and defence with 3+D wings who can cover for him then he could be effective. But in that case which pg wouldn't be?
Gordon is one of the best wings in the league, Shroeder is not near a starting caliber for his position.

That was a mistake but defensible at the time. The real mistake they made was choosing Perkins or Ibaka over harden. There were several articles about how valuable ibaka was (hah) and OKC didn’t want to stretch and waive Perkins to get under the luxury tax, I think. They could have kept all four had they waived or traded Perkins into space, or kept the big three had they traded ibaka for assets and cap space.

Guaranteed CP3 and Harden will hold his ass to account in the gym. Melo’s best chance to redeem his entire career here... he’s still gonna get paid either way. Win-win.

On the contrary, I think Melo needs to spend the next couple of months working on becoming an absolute lock-down defender, someone who can totally throttle KD during next year's WCF.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! I slay myself.

Melo should go to the Heat.

Wade, multiple NBA champion, will keep him in check and revive his career.

    Windhorst:

    What is next for 'Melo?

This is really just an OK decision. This is two teams who both had toxic assets they traded for each other. The Hawks are getting rid of a guy facing a possible felony conviction who was a problem in the locker room. The Thunder took on more money than they traded away here. It's split over two years. They have to pay Schroder next year & pay tax on that salary next year and to get that done, they paid with a first round pick. I'm not jumping up and down for joy for either side here. The big winner here is 'Melo. He gets his full $28M, no buyout, he'll get released, get to go to the Houston Rockets where he'll double dip, get a double salary even though it won't be for much and play against the Thunder this season, maybe in the playoffs and maybe send a message there. Ultimately, everyone comes out feeling OK but won't say it's a huge win for anybody.

Any question Houston is where he goes?

We can still see some things happen in the league that could change his position. This trade won't go through for awhile. It's a 3-team trade. Then 'Melo has to go through waivers. I guess just to protect myself, things change in the NBA every day but unless there's a major change of events, he'll be a Houston Rocket. I think if he accepts being a bench player, he can be really great for them. He was terrific as a role player for Team USA. Team USA 'Melo is the best 'Melo. I think he can do that. I'm interested to hear from him. I'm interested to hear what he thinks his role will be. I think he can be great for the Rockets.

Can't we just pay Atlanta to take Anderson in a Melo trade? Anders is owed, what $13 or $14 million more (over 2 years) than Melo's $28m?

Anderson would eat into their cap space for next season, which they likely plan to leverage for more stuff like they did this season. No way they would be OK with that.

So in effect , Atlanta paid $27.9m for a lottery protected pick and ~$15M in cap space next year ?! (Schroder's salary off the books - Muscala was an expiring).

I was one of the few voices of reason last year in saying that Melo is not a good fit on the Rockets. As per usual, I was 100% correct. Signing 'Melo is putting the Rockets on a highway to hell. The guy is working double time on the no-production line. The Thunderstruck out in signing him. He shoots to thrill and doesn't play the percentages, incorporate the stats into his play, or adapt to his team. Can he outplay his contract, which is a central tenet of Morey's strategy? Possibly, since money talks and he won't be making much of it. The best answer? Putting Melo back in black -- on the Spurs.

    GOOD DAY

They traded away Muscala and Schroeders 20.5 salary for this season as well, so they really paid 7.4 million to make all this happen.

We reserved the mini mle for melo but now that it is a full buyout, anyone know if he will take the vet min?

And if so, do we split the mini or give it all to a remaining free agent?

I think he gets a portion of the MLE, that way he can possibly get a bigger income next year. And we split the remaining with our rookies for a longer contract.

I'm surprised Schroeder's stock was this low. He's only 24, and can score and defend. From Atlanta's perspective, this was an escape from him. They were willing

The Westbrook-Schroeder relationship should be weird.

He's one of the worst defensive players in the NBA. Maybe he's capable of decent defense, but he's been terrible at it. On top of being an insufferable person to deal with and a poor shooter.

I can't blame them for wanting him as far away from Trae Young as possible.

But, Melo didn't play for the Rockets last year. So, I'm not sure what you think you were correct about. We will find out this coming season if Melo fits or not.
