If CC takes his QO and leaves, is Hartenstein a good option?

Because we don't want to see him get hurt.

    Whomever.

The trade play here is obvious.

In the 2017 season these teams lost money:

    Hawks
    Nets
    Cavs
    Pistons
    Grizzlies
    Bucks
    Magic
    Spurs
    Wizards

The report for 2018 is not out yet....If it gets out. But perusing the payrolls of these teams.....things probably got significantly worse for some of them.

And I haven't even mentioned the Thunder...who have now hit the repeater tax and are facing a $180+ million tax bill unless they drop salary.

This is why they are scrambling to get rid of Melo....and others. And this is why guys like Stan Van the GM got fired (what a stupid trade taking on and Stan Van the coach subsequently quit. It's also why the foregone conclusion was that the Cavs were getting out of the luxury tax, because they were losing money already, and they were facing the REPEATER LUXURY TAX this season just like the Thunder are.
I did. I cringed at the thought of 40 minion dollars in dead money (Anderson and Capela) riding the bench while we're trying to beat the Warriors.

Capela is also so much more explosive around and going to rim. And how hard he plays cannot be downplayed. There is a reason why he needed to increase his stamina previous to last season, because Rockets expect him to run, run and run some more.

I think we have a better chance with Joe Cheese. The kid is hitting threes and looks like like someone finally gets introduces him to Texas BBQ and Whataburger! Whatever they are feeding that kid keep it up.

Suppose CC takes the QO and gets 4-year 100M next year, he makes 104M in total for the next 5 years. Considering state income tax advantage in TX and the risk of not getting that max contract next year, he shouldn’t reject an offer of 5-year 90M, unless he’s irrational. I think this is why we offered 85M + 5M incentive. His agent surely understands this so I think we are getting close.
