That’s not the point! They didn’t lose because Melo played bad defense. They lost because Utah was better. If the fears of signing Melo are based on his poor defense, look no further than the fact that OKC was good defensively last year. Do you not trust Harden, CP, and MDA to do what they’ve done their entire career and get the most out of players?
I think his point is they are basically a wash, everyone always points to Ariza for his “defense”. I don’t even know how your arguing this, Melo for free is up there with cousins on the MLE. Very little risk since it’s a one year deal for no money and a lot of upside if it goes well.
check out the 50+ pages of valid discussions. its actually pretty easy. this would help with the same posts over and over that are just regurgitations of wishful thinking
Rubio and Mitchell owning Westbrook and Ingles giving PG hell had nothing to do with Melo but he's the easiest to target. I mean in Game 6 along PG went 2/16 and got a max deal and Westbrook took 43 shots while Melo was sitting and they still lost. But yeah Melo's fault and thats not to say he's without responsibility but Billy D. never gave that team a chance to succeed.
YOLO, what do you suggest we do to replace Ariza? It’s not like we have a lot of options right now. We have a need, Melo wants to be here, and he’s not gonna cost much... It’s a low risk move. Exactly! People that don’t want Melo have a personal destain against him and are not thinking in the best interest of the Rockets!
I highly doubt Melo buys into the Houston system, but maybe he will. Either way I don't know what he even adds to the team other than being a better version of Joe Johnson at this point in his career.
People are forgetting how high both James and Cp3's basketball iq is. If they think Melo can take them higher , I trust their judgement...Morey and D'Antoni's too.
Hilarious and perfectly summarizes my take on the whole Melo situation. Am I in love with the idea? No Does my opinion matter? No Does the opinion of all the Negative Nancy's here matter? No DM is going to make moves that both make his stars happy and make sense from a basketball standpoint. The risk vs. reward element is overwhelmingly in favor of giving this a try. If Melo decides he wants to be a Rocket, you better believe it's going to happen.
I didn't even realize how much Melo collapsed last year. He's 34 now. He only had 2.5 fta/g and he was barely over 40% from the field. Lowest WS/48 for his career, negative offensive box +/-, by far worst box +/- in his career, and first time he had a negative value over replacement player in his career. He's a ball stopper and he doesn't shoot corner 3s either. He would have to be a role player in Houston, but he will be b****ing and moaning when he's only get 20-25 mpg. He was terrible in the playoffs too. I guess he's a better option than Ryno, but that's not saying much. He's a low reward signing, but maybe CP3 can bring something better out of him.
Stunts on Capela, gets back to Tucker, gets in front of driving Harden with hands out, gets beat but recovers and blocks the shot. He plays defense, isn't always great but he plays defense. Also note how Jerami Grant is hugging Capela essentially, he should be cheating over since Capela isn't a threat and Harden has no passing angle.
You didn't watch Thunder games so this exactly the conclusion I expected, I knew once you said ball stopper you didn't watch their games lol but then again no one wants to watch Russ pound the air out of the rock. Melo adjusted to the role the team needed and it hurt him numbers wise but he had similar FG%, 3P% and DRTG to Ariza who he'd be replacing. His numbers will likely increase due to playing with better guards and creators than Mr. Triple Double. Just relax it'll all work out.
You're about to have a basketball revelation when you see someone play with westbrook one year and then cp3/harden the next
basketball impact wise? Id say yeah cp3 has that level impact on the court. the only reason to think otherwise is cp3 gets banged up.
CP3 should not be a GM after his career. But let's get Melo just to prove his point .... because we handed him the keys to the ball club.
I bet you thats not the case. You realize we were top 6 last year right? Top 3 with everyone healthy. One player on the court playing 25-30 minutes a game isnt going to knock you down 15-20 spots.
Love the passion of all of my fellow Rockets loving peers. I, for one, am “cautiously optimistic” about Carmelo’s potential as a Rocket. On one hand, Charlie P has had it right for many years, Carmelo is a chucker! On the other hand, Carmelo had some of his best shooting campaigns while in Mike D’Antoni’s system. Defensively we have already seen what Jeff Bzdelik is capable of based on his work with James Harden. Chris Paul is the unquestioned leader on the floor defensively and he will demand defensive play out of his Banana Boat Buddy. Playing aside Westbrook last year did Anthony no favors. I believe he will strive in a system with two guys who really know how to move the basketball. I also believe it will get the attention of other veterans looking to chase a ring. There are no spots left at the Oracle and the Staple Center is filling up fast. Daryl has done a terrific job of making the right moves to position the team to win. As a fan, I have no reason to doubt his abilities and I look forward to seeing our boys kick some California ass!
