As long as melo is here for the vet min and he doesn't become a locker room cancer, it's a good deal. Melo can still shoot lights out from the 3 but man is his defense non-existant. He just cannot move laterally at all like Ryno.
Melo will not be accepting a bench role like EG did unfortunately. His ego won't tolerate it. So, the Melo to Rockets camps are very divided on this forum. Since you are against him signing without that backup role, are you comfortable with just having Luc start then? The reason I like Luc starting in my previous lineup is because of the offensive firepower we would have with Melo at the 4. Luc picks up much of Ariza's defensive absence, but is a step back offensively. If we have Melo, Harden, and CP3 in the same lineup, we would then have Luc and Capela to offset with primarily defense, blocks, and rebounds at the other 2 remaining positions. Having both Luc and Tucker in the starting lineup means we take a sizable "all-around" step back from last year. My ideal bench would be Hartenstein, Tucker, Green, Gordon, and MCW. That's really not that bad at all IMO. Especially if Duval and Melton are ready to contribute something year one as well.
I didn't coin the term, you ninny. Nobody means actual cancer. why don't you talk to his former teammates and get back to me. K thx bye.
officer clint is currently being sad in his safe space and does not want to see the tillman especially right now as he always dresses shabbily in a tshirt, which is a "no-no"
he does what the rockets need him to. he absolutely filled the role and even with bringing the rockets to a top level defense needed to match up with GS. all of you guys talking about offense only are just bringing yourself back to what the rockets were years ago. if you're happy with that then have fun watching a mediocre defense once again. dont start b****ing or whining about how bad the defense is and how morey didnt account for this or that. The rox are depending on harden and cp3 because they are elite players. youre supposed to rely on them primarily. thats what smart teams do. this system is built exactly around them. You have an issue with that then tell MDA and staff to change the system that one 60+ games and closest to winning a title since the hakeem days. you want them to feature another player besides harden/cp3 then bring in another elite player. If you think thats a featured 34 year old declining melo you're kidding yourself
CP needs to offer some of his own money to settle this Clint Capela contract situation. Fertita's financial trouble prevents him from offering Clint what he deserves.
Luc's role ideally is off the bench like he was previously this past year. thats where he fit this team to maximize is ability to contribute. but as of now theres no starting caliber wing to replace Ariza and the hole he left there and LMM is the closest thing to it. However once again, his durability comes into question
TU for the post. That is an objectively better post than any of mine, so thank you for that. But Melo has had flaws with his game for years that are only getting worse, thanks to his diminishing athleticism and skills and changes in the way NBA ball is played. He has been getting worse since before OKC and were we to get him he will still be bad here. It's who he is. OKC/WB didn't make him look bad, it just had his bad style of basketball under a larger microscope thanks to relevance. Given that he has very recently complained about the level of his role in OKC, I don't know why we should think he would be a good fit here. I don't see a way that his ball-stopping offense and black-hole defense will make a meaningful (positive) impact. It was painful for me to watch him against the Jazz in the playoffs. I felt sorry for him because he was so bad. It's non easy for me to shake that and convince myself he would somehow help against GSW in the playoffs when he needed to be benched against the Jazz. All that said... for the minimum... maybe. But I don't see where he fits currently, except as backing up PJT at the 4 (making RA our $20M 3rd stringer).
So yeah....as long as we have enough money to keep Luc and Capella as well then I guess we keep Chris happy and sign his boyfriend!
Ryno would be our $20 million 3rd stringer, but we can't worry about that, it's not our money after all. Melo will never accept a bench role on this team, he wants to play on a contender, but his ego is too big to be a back up. I'm willing to tip jar bet this I'm that confident. He'd rather retire. It's a 50/50 prop, it's either us or the Lakers after he gets bought out. For those that don't want him and/or think he's not coming in for Tucker at the 4 prepare yourself now. Lastly, for those that do want him, but think he should just replace Ariza at the 3 and keep Tucker at the 4, he would get destroyed on defense. Don't see that happening either.
oh come on bob just admit you were wrong he's not a cancer and he's never been. the guy's always been a gemini and totally benign. now hoodie melo, that dude is one hermit lookin crab!
Those who are against Melo... Have you offered up any other realistic options? Melo was not my first choice coming into the offseason. But the fact is, Ariza is gone, we haven’t re-signed Mbah a Moute, there aren’t many options out there to replace either guy, and Melo wants to be a Rocket... I trust Harden, CP, and MDA to get the most out of Melo in a 3rd/4th option role. The space he’ll have here is way better than what he had in OKC. I know he’s not a good defender, but neither is Ryno and as of now he’d probably be starting next season. Plus, OKC managed to be a solid defensive team despite Melo. Imagine our small ball lineup... PJ Melo Harden EG CP
I wanted Melo badly last summer and was picturing him averaging 20, 6, and 3 on 45/38/84 shooting splits shooting 7 threes a game with the occasional ISO/post up...then he went to OKC and looked completely washed and played like garbage with him looking like a liability in the playoffs against Utah I’d now like him on this team as a weapon off the bench, a role he seems to have no interest in playing
No. Melo does not shoot "lights out" from the 3. His career average is under 35% and is worse than Ariza was. Did you think Ariza shot lights out from the 3?
capela deserves whatever the broad nba market will bear. unfortunately for him the broad nba market doesn't have many if any harden and paul's to spoonfeed his ass, so he would start looking quite anorexic away from team landry's and they all know it. perhaps he should just be happy with the scraps he's getting at tilman's diner, they have had lucas and dream help him learn how to sit at the table all these years without them he probably still be on the floor trying to catch cockroaches for a snack
