I just got laid off. The design firm I've worked for over the past 10 years just let me go. 10 years ago when I started there were 19 people employed by the firm. At the start of the day there were 9, now there are 8. It was purely financial. I doubt the company makes it another year. I have an extensive portfolio. Mastery of Quark Xpress, Illustrator, Photoshop. Excellent Dreamweaver skills, and flash experience. I also served as Production Manager, maintained all of our computers and network, and administered our website and mail server. If anyone knows of a company that needs a Graphic Design/Production Manager/Mac Guru please let me know. I have a wife and 2 kids that depend on my income.
Man, I remember in that recent post of yours you talked about being worried and weren't going to attend your 20-30 Rocket games this year. Good luck.
That sucks, man. I wish I could help you but I don't know much about that field. I hope things work out for you, keep your chin up I guess.
Damn man, that's horrible. Unfortunately, I don't know of any jobs, but I'll keep you in my thoughts.
Holy crap. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hang in there VDP. I'll keep an eye out, and email you if I see anything. Be strong.
I feel you bro. I have the same skills and years of experience and I am unemployed. I had been freenlance since '00 was doing good for awhile the the work sort of dissappeared, or rather people who were willing to pay for it. Finally I moved away from Houston with my girl, luckily she has a good job and we have no kids, because I havent had a paycheck in months. I am considering doing something completely different, the graphics industry aint what it used to be. Good luck with your search.
Sorry to hear the news VooDooPope. A bunch of my graphics buds in the Bay Area here say that India is the new hot-spot for graphics jobs (I'm not suggesting you move your family there). Anyway, best wishes for your next spot.
Sorry to hear that. Be strong, things have a way of working out in the end. I would get in touch with a 3rd party recruiter for your field. Don't tell them you were laid off, just tell them you are happy with your job but you are looking for a change.
Hey voodoo, do you have any ex or flash or dreamweaver sites that you made? Also have you done any CD booklets/tracklistings? If so, I might have a few jobs for you, just the peeps won't pay much at all. Since I'm deep in my music connections, I can have a lot of peeps work with you as long as you are willing to go down in your price.
Tough luck Pope. Sometimes these things do work out for the better. Probably not much comfort at this time, but do keep your chin up.
Sorry to hear about that. If it's any consolation, I think more of my acquaintances and friends are unemployed that at any point in my life.
BTW are you in Houston? if so here are a couple of industry sites to try, They have job listings you may already know these. They also have monthly functions for members and is a great way to make contacts. Houston Advertising Federation www.haf.org Art Directors club of Houston www.adch.org
