I was aggregating Scenarios to compare the next 5yrs; but correct only Rockets can give 5yrs to Clint if they desire.

This news only means one thing. His agent does not have the leverage or capacity to negotiate a fat contract for him.

Rockets better not say that bogus phrase "run it back" if they let Capela take the QO

I don't blame Capela at all for feeling like he feels.

As an employee you want to feel valued by your employer. Capela knows that he's the 3rd most important player on the Rockets. His impact defensively is arguably more important than his impact offensively. The guy controls the paint for us. Without him our defense would be terrible. Being the 3rd best player on the team, he sees Chris Paul at $40m, Harden at $30m. Naturally, $20m is where he should land. He sees Ryan Anderson getting paid $20m by himself.

It's not REALLY about the money, as others have pointed out here, him taking the QO this year and forgoing a year's salary is not the smartest move. It's about does your employer value your contributions? If not I'd be offended.

Remember when Capela and his Agent forced their way on the Roster his rookie season when Morey wanted to Euro Stash him for a year and screwed up Morey's plan and cap? Well Morey hasn't forgot and is driving a hard bargin.

i can just picture clint right now all curled up in a safe space bemoaning the hand that's been dealt to him and wonderdreaming about a faraway place where benji's rain down from a clear blue sky, unicorns fly free with the prevailing winds, and champagne wishes & caviar dreams come true during both pregame and postgame naps. there's a place in his heart and i know that it is love and this place could be much brighter than tomorrow, and if he really tries he'll find there's no need to cry -- in this place he will feel no hurt or sorrow -)))))))))))))

I wonder what Rox have offered Capela.
    4/48?

Would be ecstatic with anything under 15/yr

This is just a bad year to be a restricted Free Agent
I would prefer they give him the 4/80 offer

I really dislike the way the Rockets/Morey has gone about this.

Just pay the man what he's worth, if this drags on it is going to affect chemistry, and one of the biggest reasons that the Rockets won so many games is because the lockerroom was so tight. We have already lost Trev, a disgruntled Capela isn't going to help.

If Capela takes the QO he is going to be playing for a big contract first and not necessarily the team.

Also, wouldn't Capela taking the QO virtually guarantee he is gone in FA next year, due to the maximum amount a player's contract can increase year to year if a team is over the cap?

It almost never works out in the teams favor when a player takes the QO or bypass the period where they’re eligible to sign a long term deal. If he takes the QO and duplicated his good season, he just increase his value and he definitely won’t settle for anything less than 20 mill.

The Rockets can't piece together a sustainable contender with three full max salaries. If there's an opportunity to lock him Capela in at a better rate then they are going to try and do it... it is a business.

If they hadn't signed CP3 to that full max and maybe just 4 yr/120mil, they would be able to offer Clint more money. Oh well, i don't blame Clint for taking the QO. He wants to get paid whether it be this year or next year as UFA.

I’m sure Clint and his reps were expecting to instantly be offered and $80 mil contract since that’s what we’ve been hearing all season, but the market just wasn’t there for Clint. Should’ve worked on that 3 ball kid
