Somewhat small sample size (116 games, 301 PAs) but the early results aren't good, he has been worth -3.4 BSR. Marisnick this year in 68 games and 163 PAs carries a BSR of 1.7 (its a cumulative stat).
He's fast, he makes very good turns and from what little we've seen (4 out of 5) he gets good jumps stealing. He did get picked off 2nd recently. Not sure what yall want. I don't care what he did last year as a part-time bench rookie.
He’s really not that fast. He’s small, so his legs move quickly and he “looks” fast, but he’s really not covering that much ground. I’m too lazy to look it up, but I’d be surprised if his times were faster than Marisnick.
No way he's as fast as Fisher either. So? What about Altuve? Is he "fast"? There's more than that to being a good baserunner (a thing Altuve struggles with). But whatever, the Stros like Kemp, you don't. We can leave it at that.
Altuve's baserunning figures are actually a lot better than Kemp's, at least if you go by BSR (which takes into consideration wSB, wGDP & UBR).
Right? What other role could he have right now? So what he hell are we talking about? You don't have to answer that.
If Kemp continues his pace, he is more than serviceable at more than one position. I have been impressed. He has gotten us 2 WAR just with his late inning heroics.
It's hard to disagree that kemp is at the back of the roster somewhere (that's obvious). The fact is, he is putting up numbers that are above his position on the depth chart offensively. This is a good thing and something to watch moving forward. I'm not sure what the debate is here.
We're just gonna have to agree to disagree on that. I'm not gonna allow beginning metrics on such a small sample to tell me he's not a solid baserunners. And he doesn't just get on base, he gets on base a lot and will hit for a solid average. He's a 3-4 WAR player as somebody's everyday 2B. His value is being killed because he's forced to play LF for us.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...s-promotion-says-a-lot-Tony-Kemp-13056771.php The assumption among most onlookers was that Marisnick blocked Tucker’s path to the major leagues. Reading Saturday’s transaction for face value lends credence to the thought — one that, even with Marisnick’s demotion, is still untrue. “When a transaction happens, we talk a lot about the guy we sent down,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “But there are some guys that we kept that earned the right to be here.” “There’s a role for him on this team,” Hinch said. “And (I told him) not to get overwhelmed by the Kyle Tucker getting called up and the assumption that he’s not going to play.”
Ah, championship team problems. Do we use our final roster spot on an elite defensive OF#5, a spunky 26yr old 2B/LF with .295/.385/.410 splits, or our top farm system prospect who just finished murdering AAA at age 21??? I feel bad for Kemp that he's basically blocked by the Ubermensch version of himself. SuperKemp. He's 100% a major leaguer, however. The cream always rises.
