If Melo signs with the Rockets, he’ll look a lot better offensively in D’Antoni’s system than he did in OKC. Look at it this way, he’s a better offensive player than Ryan Anderson, and Ryan Anderson gave you nothing against Golden State in the playoffs. Say what you want about Melo, but he won’t be a complete zero against the Warriors.
is he too slow to play the SF? Im not sure if he is best as a stretch 4 or playing the 3 like he used to in Denver (if I remember correctly).
"As far as being effective as that type of player, I don't think I can be effective as that type of player," Anthony said. "I think I was willing to accept that challenge in that role, but I think I bring a little bit more to the game as far as being more knowledgeable and what I still can do as a basketball player." Anthony also made it clear he would not be accepting of a bench role." Nevermind. I really really really don't want him. This would be a nightmare.
The Rockets will be very competitive and win a lot of games with or without Melo. Also, Melo wants to start. For that to happen with the Lakers, they have to commit to playing a small lineup with LeBron at center, Melo at PF, and Ingram at center.
A year ago I wanted him thinking 1.) he could improve as an off the ball to Harden / OKC, but now seeing him OKC, that proved not true. 2.) he was a year less on contract than Anderson 3.) he would help get Lebron here Signing him now for the vet min does not achieve any of those now. Don't see what the point is.
Regarding Melo. I would want to know. 1) What is his role? What in Houston would make it BETTER for him than it was in OKC? 2) Is he starting or a 6th man? If he is starting, what is the NET gain offensively from the defensive loss of him on the court. Big concern. They were TOP 3 in the league with Ariza and Tucker at the forwards. We can't regress here. I am open to Melo on the Rockets. But I have concerns.
I don't know.. he wants to start and not come off the bench. So I don't see that with the Rockets. Perhaps Portland since they're desperate.
