The theory is that when your team has a star player, you attract other stars to join. Golden State got Durant, and now Cousins (though who knows about his post-injury effectiveness). Rockets landed Chris Paul (and before then Dwight). Kawhi not excited to play with LeBron, Kyrie left him last year. Lakers' signings since LeBron joins being over-the-hill Rondo and Klutch client KCP. Does LeBron just dominate a team both on and off the court so much nowadays that other high-level NBA player may not want to deal with the whole situation?
Did they ever find him attractive? Do they find him attractive anymore? No! Kyrie left, Paul George passed, Kevin Durant passed, Chris Paul passed, Kawhi Leonard sounds like he can do without. "...but but but they all had better situations already!"
He did get 36 years old to play with him in Cleveland. And 32 years old Mike Miller to play with him. And 36 years old Ray Allen
Building a championship team takes skill. You can't throw Westbrook, PG and Melo on a team and call them the 2nd best team in the NBA. When players check their ego's at the door, they become unstoppable. This is what make Jordan great. LeBrons biggest challenge to greatness is not getting his massive ego stuck in the doorway. Nobody wants to deal with this type of behavior. Kobe was only tolerated because he put winning 1st. LeBron has way too many distractions in his life. He should have focused 15 years on his best talent, which is being the greatest NBA player in the league, instead of acting like his business and management skills are superior.
paul george is the headscratcher because it's not like anyone claims westbrook is the guy you really want to play with.
When you are over the hill, you want to attach yourself to LeBron in the hope that you can at least get to the Finals. When you are a star in your prime, you may not want to live in LeBron's shadow because you won't get much sunshine there. I have a feeling Harden secretly hoped that LeBron wouldn't come to Houston.
Players like money. They go where they can earn the most. If they can do that and play for a contended they will , if they cant , they'll go to PHX.
Paul George stayed in OKC because of the money. Chris Paul stayed in HOU because of the money. Ditto Carmelo, Jokic, Booker, DeAndre, Ariza, Redick, Dwert, you name it. Adam Silver should be generally satisfied with this free agency proceeding because in general it has shown that players are once again thinking with their bank accounts. The only exception now, and for the past five years, is Golden State. Consistently they are still getting superstars playing way under market value (>10M per year) to stick around on that team, drink in the smug fumes from the Bay area, and win championship year after year. There's nothing we can do about it except talk with our own checkbooks, and boycott the NBA until that POS franchise is buried in the ground.
The media is partly to blame. When his team wins, they say it's because of Lebron's greatness. When his team loses, it's because he doesn't have enough help around him. Star players don't want to deal with that (see: Kyrie).
Doubt it. Most stars aren't attracted to such large foreheads and receding hairlines. But maybe they like his muscles.
This. For any star player, it's a lose lose situation. When stars joins the Warriors, at least they can lie to themselves that they're joining the Justice League and will be a superhero amongst other superheroes. When you join any team with Lebron, you're not even Robin to his Batman. You're Alfred.
