In a vacuum, yes. But Clint can defend in space and Cousins can't, and our defense is built around that switchability. Cousins obviously would be huge on offense for us to counter switches, which is the most frustrating thing about all this because he went to the god damn Warriors who have the exact same issue as us.
Lots of posts reading like GSW is getting the pre-injury Boogie at 5.3 mill, and it’s goodnight season 18/19. He won’t be the same, especially this year of all years. Heck, he’s lucky to see the court this year in any meaningful way.
Rockets royally screwed up this post-season. Paying Paul insane money and not going after a great three point shooting center in Cousins (15 million would be a steal) will hurt them for years and years to come. Could have played Boogie at center and Capela at pf and moved Tucker to sf.
Again, why do you think Cousins will even be healthy enough to play in December? He's coming off an ACL. The Warriors didn't make this move for the regular season, they are thinking about the playoffs. We don't have that luxury. You lose Capela if we sign Cousins for 1 year. Then what? Explain to CP3 and Harden that they don't have a center anymore?
yes, 11 years ago, Elton Brand (not as good as Cousins, but definitely shorter and heavier) had the same injury and it destroyed his career. That doesn't mean that will be Boogie's fate.
yes. he's also a sticky-ass player. If GSW has sticky possessions, it's KD. They have three players who could lead the league in scoring, yet Klay only averages 20 a game. My questions are, are we really expecting boogie to be the type of guy who is totally cool with not getting touches? Does he realize he's signed up for a bogut / zaza / mcgee role? and how long until he gets upset about it?
Boogie is not playing the four coming off Achilles surgery. Edit: realize now you were talking about clint. but I suspect that a lineup of clint at 4 and boogie at 5 is very un-MDAish
Exactly my point here. Even for the Fubs this is a precariously risky move. Houston can NOT afford to add volatility. Also note that Fubs championship odds only increased by 3% post Cousins addition. Calm the F down.
he won't be the same is just stating the obvious. but that doesn't matter. for whatever reason some of you dont see he doesn't even need to be close to pre injury boogie. yall act as if hes coming to a team thats missing or needing a star to compete to be better or the best. As if hes going to be a primary feature player. hes being added to the reigning world champions as in 3 of the last 4 years. 2 mvps. 4 all nba players. all in their absolute prime. Cousins becomes a role player. hes playing to replace the likes of a rookie role, looney, zaza, and any other random big they threw in that spot in the last 4 years. There's absolutely no comparison to the workload hes going to have this year. its as easy as its ever been probably since his grade school days
If the Rockets can get Clint locked in at 15MM per then this is a successful offseason. They need to toe the line between value in this market and making sure he doesn't sign the QO.
The Mavs paid DeAndre Jordan $25 million for 1 year. I wonder if Boogie would have taken a 3 year/$30 million deal from them? The fundamental question is how long the rehab time will really be, and how ready Cousins will be come the playoffs in a year. It's not impossible that his rehab is delayed and he's not ready / not integrated at all. Presumably, he's looking to get a much bigger deal next year.
