Also, because of the nature of ADSL (it's asymmetric, upload speed is less than download) many users download the file before they have uploaded a similar quantity of data to the network. If many users do this, it degrades the BT network, so I always leave my files up until a have a share ratio of 1. Which leaves a window of opportunity for me to be accosted. A simple Perl script could regularly hit the tracker, and quickly compile a list of IP's involved in illegal activity.

It is the obscurity of the BitTorrent network that provides the protection at the moment.

Man, you guys are talking way over my head. It's like I'm reading a different language!

I used Kazaa last night (to download the wedding band scene from Old School) and it was working fine.

Yeah, I think it still works it's just people cannot download the program anymore but don't take that as a sure answer.

Well I don't know why my Kazaa Lite no longer works but everyone else's seems to. Everytime I try to download a file I get that "More sources needed" message.

I get that a lot too but I don't think that has to do with it being shut down. It just means no one is sharing the file you're looking for at that moment.

It happens to me when I try to download a very obscure p*rn clip...er, uh...an obscure song.

OK, here's the confusion: BitTorrent is the name of the P2P protocol. There is a client called "BitTorrent Client", but it's quite basic. Azureus is just another client for BitTorrent, with more bells and whistles. It's Java-based, and for what it's worth, it's the client I use.

I'm a Bit Torrent user, have been for about 2 months.

It's excellent for TV Episodes and movies.

I don't bother with music when it's sooooooo easy to purchase with iTunes.

Also, if I like a movie or TV show I buy it on DVD.

Azureus is my favorite. PTC is also pretty good.

I also share until my ratio is at least 1:1 otherwise you are just a leecher.

Yeah, since I posted about Shadow's Experimental, I've been hearing nothing but praise for Azureus in the last day. I guess I'll have to check it out.
