Marisnick was awesome tonight. Doesn't change my feeling about his spot on the roster, but he was great. A few more games with only 1 K and he may be hitting tolerably enough to justify keeping his glove.
Long toss and warm up first.... eta: do yall remember down by Lefty's Pub in the Dome, the Throw Your Stuff At The "Catcher"? Paid about $1 per ball, and you could rear back and throw it. I was clocked at 80 in my dress shoes and slacks and tie. Am I the only one that did that?
Oh I'm fairly certain that the gun was amped up. My buddy started it, and I was shocked that he kinda threw like a girl and hit the side of the pitching net. There's a bunch of kids around, right? So I said "gimme the rock", and I (from the stretch) aimed at the "catcher's" mask (yellow tarp with the catcher outline on it) and I nailed him (POP!!!) right in the face, the kids went "oooooooohhhh" and then I walked downstairs and proceeded to enjoy the game.
Marisnick last two weeks, 0.381/0.458//0.762 (that last number is slugging, not OPS). He's been hitting like he did last year since he was recalled over a month ago (i.e., below average contact, well above power when he hits it). He can't erase the first 6-8 weeks of the season. He hits well enough to justify his glove to be in the majors. That isn't to say there aren't better players that could cost him his spot in majors with the Astros, but this characterization of him is that of when he's slumping.
For the month he is slashing .286/.375/.514/.889 He sure would make a boatload of money if he could do that every month.
Those numbers are real close to the club average for June of .286/.361/.491/.851 Great numbers for Jake, but only about average on the team for June. Meanwhile, everything you just said about Jake applies to Kemp as well whose numbers are arguably better than Jake's for the month (.333/.396/.417/.813), especially when factoring in SO's and BB's.
